EASTPOINTE, Mich. - Police say a family's pit bull terrier has fatally mauled a 1-year-old boy. Lt. Darrell Corsi says the boy's parents were home when he was attacked by the dog shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday in Eastpointe, which borders Detroit on the northeast. The father, whose name was being withheld, shot the dog to death with a handgun.

KDKA) AMBRIDGE A Beaver County man is upset because he says police didn't have to kill his dog. Kevin Corlew of Ambridge says police shot his one-year-old pit bull on Saturday. Police tell KDKA that they received complaints from neighbors the dog was loose. When officers tried to restrain the dog, they say the animal charged at a boy and then at an officer. Then, an officer shot the dog. Corlew says the dog was harmless.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom indicated Sunday that he may propose limitations on pit bull ownership in the wake of last week's fatal mauling of a 12-year-old boy. Newsom said he will meet Monday with animal control officials to discuss what steps to take to prevent future attacks.
