LAFAYETTE, IN — A local 10-year-old boy has died tragically of severe trauma due to his mother taking away his Nintendo Switch for a few days. According to sources, 10-year-old Camden Connor passed away shortly after his mother told him: "Camden, I've had it with your bad attitude today. Give me the Switch and go outside and play!" "I have never seen such abuse," said one paramedic who arrived on the scene. "To force an innocent 10-year-old boy to be parted from Super Mario Odyssey, or The Legand of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, or Minecraft for hours is bad...

The nonfungible-token craze saw digital art sell for eye-watering prices, but here's a reminder that people dropping exorbitant sums on collectables didn't start with NFTs. A sealed copy of Super Mario 64 has sold at Heritage Auction for $1.56 million. That makes it the most expensive video game ever sold. Super Mario 64 is a legendary release in gaming's history. It was the only game to launch alongside Nintendo's N64 console and was the first title to pluck Mario out of 2D and place him in a 3D world. And where Mario goes, so does the industry: Super Mario 64...

Today’s exclusive report — being co-published in The Guardian and Jacobin — breaks some big news about Andrew Cuomo helping a major corporate donor potentially immunize itself from future prosecution. As Governor Andrew Cuomo faced a spirited challenge in his bid to win New York’s 2018 Democratic primary, his political apparatus got a last-minute boost: a powerful health care industry group suddenly poured more than $1 million into a Democratic committee backing his campaign. Less than two years after that flood of cash from the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), Cuomo signed legislation last month quietly shielding hospital and...

There are few silver linings to COVID-19, but it's good to point them out when we can find them in the face of overwhelming despair. That leads us to this delightful, yet bizarre video: https://youtu.be/2Byv-qBXlA0 As you can see, it's two dudes (self-described "pranksters' Caleb Simpson and Irving Salazar) driving around the streets of New York City in go-carts while dressed up as Mario and Luigi.

An anonymous buyer bid a record $114,000 for a rare, unopened copy of the classic video game Super Mario Bros. The game cartridge was originally released in 1985 for the popular Nintendo Entertainment System console, according to Dallas-based Heritage Auctions, which ran Friday’s auction. The winning bid broke the record for the most ever paid for a video game, according to Heritage. A mint-condition copy of the same game sold for $100,150 in February 2019. This version of Super Mario Bros. was particularly rare because the box with a cardboard hang tab underneath the plastic, an indication that it was...

Once again, a celebrity or politician has apologized for offending the left-wing puritans on social media. This time, Mario Lopez, a newly hired host of Access Hollywood, apologized for opining that 3-year-old children should not determine their gender. This statement was made in June on a podcast program with conservative commentator Candace Owens. Of course, the remark was both innocuous and sensible as children that young should not be making any major decisions, that is why they hopefully have two loving parents. Unfortunately, in our society today, intelligent opinions are often treated as insensitive to certain communities. In this case,...

Outrage mobs are rallying around Mario Lopez in an attempt to destroy his career after he recently expressed his opinion regarding parents raising children as transgender from a very young age.Actor and host Lopez said during a June interview, that emerged to make waves earlier this week, that he believes it's "dangerous" for parents to label children as transgender from as young as 3-years-old. Lopez, a Catholic, made the remarks while speaking to conservative activist Candace Owens on “The Candace Owens Show.”

My wife is a big Tigers fan so I watch a lot of Tigers games. As such, I’m quite familiar with the Fox Sports Detroit broadcast crew of play-by-play man Mario Impemba and color commentator Rod Allen. They’ve been together for years. I think Impemba is one of the better play-by-play guys around and, while not everyone’s cup of tea, Allen — who is, frankly, kinda weird sometimes — sort of grows on you over time. Tigers fans have even developed a drinking game for when he’s on the air that is fun, albeit dangerous for your liver. My favorite...

This version of Super Mario turns him into a Syrian refugee attempting to get past rickety boats and border agents Mario, of Nintendo's Super Mario franchise, had to navigate treacherous turtles and evil mushrooms before getting to the next level (and the damsel in distress) in the famous video game. This version, however, is a little different. Instead of turtles there are border agents and the chasms have been replaced by treacherous water passages. Winning, in this version, doesn't mean reaching the princess: Instead, it's just about managing to get to a refugee camp. Created by Samir Al Mufti, a...

Here’s some good news from the venerable, if beleaguered, house of Nintendo : Wii U exclusive Mario Kart 8 sold 1.2 million units over the course of its first weekend, making it the best-selling game on the strange little console so far. At Forbes, reviewer Andy Robertson had nothing but good things to say about it, calling it a “Golden Bullet” and awarding it a rare 10/10 score. From his perspective, this fresh take on an old fan favorite represents Nintendo’s best chance at reversing the Wii U’s fortunes. “The early response to Mario Kart 8 demonstrates that the best...

The image of the night in Warsaw on Thursday wasn’t Mario Balotelli ripping off his shirt and, despite his best efforts, failing to keep an ice-cool straight face after he scored the goal of the tournament to take Italy into the final of Euro 2012. It was following the referee’s final whistle. And it involved Balotelli again — of course — as he buried himself deep into the hug of his adoptive mother, Silvia, her face creased in emotion as he whispered that the two goals to defeat Germany were dedicated to her.

Mario Batali faces a boycott from his restaurants' well-heeled clientele after comments he made about the banking industry Tuesday during a panel discussion. "The ways the bankers have kind of toppled the way money is distributed and taken most of it into their hands is as good as Stalin or Hitler and the evil guys," Batali, 51, said while sitting on a panel concerning Time Magazine's Person of the Year. Forbes.com reposted the remarks, and angry patrons began posting negative reviews of the celebrity chef's restaurants, including Babbo and Del Posto, on the Bloomberg restaurant site, a go-to source for...

CHICAGO—What would Mr. Belding say? Police were called last week to Mullets Sports Bar & Restaurant in Homer Glen, Ill., to deal with an angry customer who allegedly shattered a framed photo of A.C. "A Himalayan Mountain of contradictory evidence" CAMDEN, N.J. – Despite Attorney Mario Apuzzo’s objection to additional time being granted for defendants to respond to the complaint filed on behalf of Charles F. Kerchner questioning President Barack Hussein Obama’s eligibility, U.S. District Magistrate Judge Joel Schneider, for the District of New Jersey, granted an extension until no later than June 29. However, while Schneider noted the defendants’ failure to respond in a timely manner was not caused by neglect, he also stated, “Plaintiffs’ complaint raises significant issues necessitating that the named defendants engage competent counsel to represent their interests. Given the...

You didn't have to believe in omens to find it a bit odd that on the subway ride toward Mellon Arena yesterday, "I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas" seemed to be squawking in a continuous loop. This was right at the top of zero hour, when the long-awaited, viciously anticipated casino licensing issue would finally be decided. Twenty minutes later, the Penguins had begun practice on the NHL's oldest living hockey pond, and at precisely 11:27 a.m., the franchise learned it was indeed getting nothing for Christmas. Oh yeah, mommy and daddy are mad, the NHL is mad, even the Rooneys...

Teachers unions are mad at me. The New York State United Teachers demands I apologize for my "gutter level" journalism, "an irresponsible assault on public school students and teachers." This is because I hosted an ABC News TV special titled "Stupid in America," which pointed out: -- American fourth graders do well on international tests, but by high school, Americans have fallen behind kids in most other countries. -- The constant refrain that "public schools need more money" is nonsense. Many countries that spend significantly less on education do better than we do. School spending in America (adjusted for inflation)...
