Dr. Brett Parkinson, the medical director of Intermountain Healthcare’s Breast Care Center, reiterated that before the vaccine, enlarged lymph nodes were a red flag. “Whenever we see these on a normal screening mammogram we call those patients back, because it can either mean metastatic breast cancer which has traveled to the lymph nodes, or lymphoma or leukemia,” he told KTSU-TV. “With the Moderna vaccine it’s about 11% after the first dose and 16% after the second dose. We believe it’s comparable for the Pfizer vaccine as well.” Dr. Porpiglia said women who have received the vaccine may be able to...

The knives were out for me in January 2017 when I arrived in Washington as the White House correspondent for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. You see, I worked for what scolds liked to call Sheldon Adelson's paper -- and that was a no-no. Adelson died Monday night, and I never got a chance to say this. Had he given me marching orders? I heard that question a lot in 2017. In fact, I didn't meet or talk to Adelson until 2018, when I introduced myself at an event ahead of the Jerusalem Embassy opening. The "marching orders" question is one...

MIT biologists have designed a new peptide that can disrupt a key protein that many types of cancers, including some forms of lymphoma, leukemia, and breast cancer, need to survive. The new peptide targets a protein called Mcl-1, which helps cancer cells avoid the cellular suicide that is usually induced by DNA damage. By blocking Mcl-1, the peptide can force cancer cells to undergo programmed cell death. "Some cancer cells are very dependent on Mcl-1, which is the last line of defense keeping the cell from dying. It's a very attractive target," says Amy Keating, an MIT professor of biology...

A woman who battled blood cancer for years without success finally halted the disease with turmeric, it has been reported. Dieneke Ferguson is now leading a normal life after giving up on gruelling treatments that failed to stop it. Doctors say her case is the first recorded instance in which a patient has recovered by using the spice after stopping conventional medical treatments. With her myeloma spreading rapidly after three rounds of chemotherapy and four stem cell transplants, the 67-year-old began taking 8g of curcumin a day – one of the main compounds in turmeric. The cancer, which has an...

MELBOURNE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A tablet developed in Melbourne that "melts away" cancer cells has been approved for use in the United States. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Tuesday that venetoclax was approved for prescription outside of human trials for patients with chronic lymphotic leukemia (CLL). Venetoclax, which overwhelms the BCL-2 protein that is vital to cancer cell survival, was developed in Melbourne in the 1980s after researchers at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) discovered the importance of BCL-2. WEHI's head of clinical translation, Professor Andrew Roberts, said that 80...

Our daughter-in-law just called from Tampa and shared with us that our grandson, Noah, who is exactly 3.5 years today may have lymphoma. They have tested him for Mono and other things and resent some blood for other tests, which they hope to have results tomorrow, but the doctor said it didn't look good. They suspect Lymphoma. They did an ultrasound to check on his glands and they are all swollen, some as big as 3 cm, which is over an inch wide. As an aside, our daughter-in-law is a 'documented immigrant' from Brazil...her whole family came about 15 years...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has what team officials believe is lymphoma -- a form of cancer -- and has been placed on the season-ending non-football illness list. Berry will undergo further testing at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta to complete the diagnosis. "At this point in time, we don't have a definitive diagnosis," Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said at a news conference Monday afternoon. Modified ecstasy could one day have a role to play in fighting some blood cancers, according to scientists. Ecstasy is known to kill some cancer cells, but scientists have increased its effectiveness 100-fold, they said in Investigational New Drugs journal. Their early study showed all leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma cells could be killed in a test tube, but any treatment would be a decade away. A charity said the findings were a "significant step forward". In 2006, a research team at the University of Birmingham showed that ecstasy and anti-depressants such as Prozac had the potential to stop cancers growing....
