Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as New York City’s mayor today.
The 34-year-old promised universal childcare for the many by taxing the wealthiest few. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders swore Mamdani into office and even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made an appearance.
“The cost of childcare will no longer discourage young adults from starting a family because we will provide universal childcare for the many by taxing the wealthiest few,” Mamdani told the crowd. “Those in rent-stabilized homes will no longer dread the latest rent hike because we will freeze the rent. Getting on a bus without worrying about a fare hike or whether you’ll be able to get to your destination on time will no longer be deemed a small miracle because we will make those buses fast and free. “These policies are not simply about the costs that we make free but the lives that we fill with freedom. For too long in our city, freedom has belonged only to those who could afford to buy it.”

As I said a few months ago, he’s feeling himself.
There is no more mask. He’s not going to qualify anything. He’s a communist, and now the idiots in NYC who voted for this get to learn the hard way. https://t.co/rruwpmzlYi— Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) January 1, 2026
Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration ceremony included:
— the socialist anthem “bread and roses”
— socialist wife ironically wearing posh $650 footwear
— attendance by Mahmoud Khalil
— deleting pro-Jewish tweets left behind by the prior administration

It's day one of NYC's experiment in socialism, managed by new Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
He wants a $30 minimum wage.
In CA, a $20 minimum led to fewer jobs and higher prices.
But socialists never learn.

Well we all know what childcare means these days.
I never understand why he always talks about free buses, but never free subways. If his political ideology is that public transportation ought to be free, how do you justify charging people to ride the subway?
Just a thought. But I have heard it’s going to take a major tax increase on someone, in order to make those buses free, and to provide the universal child care, and to provide the government run grocery stores.
I’ve also heard that there are limits to his ability to raise taxes in new york city. I’ve heard the legislature in Albany will have to get involved in some tax increases in the city. I wonder if he knows where the money to fund everything is going to come from.
Free Somali run daycare, and public transit busses...
Lololololo!!!!!!
Don’t move to Florida.
Following in the footsteps of thousands of demagogues who promise anything to get elected, and will lie and cheat to remain in power once his promises evaporate.
It’s amazing isn’t it, that someone with such a slim resume, got elected as mayor of America’s largest city.
I heard somebody on one of those cable TV talk shows, saying that Mamdani is not the the future of the Democrat party, that he is not a leader or public face of the party. They were saying New York City is unique. And he’s not going to be a leader of the national party.
Time will tell. Time will also tell as far as his ability to do the job. Being mayor of a big complex city, such as New York, has got to be a daunting task for anyone. And even putting aside politics, it looks to me like this young man is in way over his head.
After what is being uncovered in Minnesota and Ohio and I’m sure more to come from other states, the free universal childcare horse is dead. Mamdani can thank his coreligionist Somali friends for that.
It’s all pie-in-the-sky pipe dream rhetoric. But the stupid and naive eat it up.
Or Nevada.
RE: It’s amazing isn’t it, that someone with such a slim resume, got elected as mayor of America’s largest city.
The danger to NYC is not Zohran Mamdani, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Mayor’s Office. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of a Mamdani administration than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their Mayor.
[Credit to whoever wrote this when Obama was elected]
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Mamdani, who is a mere symptom of what ails NYC in particular and many cities in America in general.
Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The city of New York can survive a Zohran Mamdani, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their Mayor.”
You mean the wealthy who have moved to Florida?
Supe rich people in NYC that donate and support democrats will stay because they will have round abouts to the taxes.
It is the people who are not super rich, just wealthy, and do not donate much, along with known republicans who will get it stuck to them.
“Universal childcare?” In other words, money laundromats.
I can see it now in Minnesota: “Pack our bags, Caaliyah! We’re going to the Big Apple to open a new Learing Center!”
I guess on 9/11 the Muslims should have just promised free stuff. Then the idiots that elected this moron would have happily taken the towers down themselves.
People like him are unable to see any incompetence in themselves. He has the smile of a narcissist. I am sure he will have some Soros type people to steer him.
“It’s amazing isn’t it, that someone with such a slim resume, got elected as mayor of America’s largest city.”

Not really. Consider that:
— Obama had a very thin resume and got elected president.
— Biden was obviously physically and mentally unfit for the job and not only got elected, but managed to hang on in a semi-detached state for four years.
— Harris failed miserably running in the primaries; nobody wanted her yet she wound up being a heart beat away from the presidency.
— Despite his numerous failures Gavin Newsome could well be the next Democrat to run for the presidency.
— Jay Jones (no reason to say more) is Virginia’s new AG.
The list goes on and its a sad commentary about our country.
Well, I cannot see a single flaw in his overall plan. The plan has several interlocking multiple flaws, which are going to doom the implementation almost immediately, but this is a thought experiment and a plotting out of a learning curve.
Building the airplane while it is taxiing out on the runway in preparation for takeoff. What can possibly go wrong?
“I am sure he will have some Soros type people to steer him.”

And a fawning media to prop him up and defend him.
Yup suddenly NYC’s number of children will go up 1000x
