Researchers from the University of Southern Denmark, analyzing data from Danish twin pairs, have found evidence suggesting that tattoo ink may elevate the risk of skin and lymphoma cancers. This potential risk is linked to the accumulation of tattoo ink in the lymph nodes. These findings highlight concerns about the long-term health effects of tattooing.

I got curious on this topic when I saw a photo of a woman on an Australian beach who had tattoos covering nearly her entire body, below the neck.:

If people want to look like garbage then that’s their problem.

I got one. Love it. Rose with pedals...pop’s name on the rose, two very close uncles no the petals...all deceased.

40000000000 things cause cancer.

Or not.

Genetics overrides all.

I had a small tattoo on my forearm but had it surgically removed 5-6 years ago by a dermatologist. He said the problem with tattoos in inconsistency in types of ink, needle depth etc. so getting one is a crap shoot.

I watched a skin doctor explain how tattoos work. The ink is injected into the skin. The body’s immune system recognizes the ink as an invader and sends immune cells to consume the invader. The immune cell gobbles up the ink, then dies. This is what makes the tattoo permanent. It is continuously attacked by the immune system rather than being absorbed.

I imagine some inks have toxic properties. The skin cells will be continuously bathed in this toxic soup. The fact that may induce cancer shouldn’t be a surprise.

I noticed that in older men the tattoos seem to fade. This is probably because their immune system is no longer robust and continuously sending immune cells. Therefore, the ink gets absorbed and carried away.

I’m in redneck territory, where you can find people tatted like Queequeg. I haven’t even had my ears pierced. Body art? Mascara is my limit.

Wow, makes sense.

I sometimes paint cars, of my own (so I get a feel of how much paint to mix). Just guessing she must have had several fluid ounces of toxic crap injected in her skin.

What’s that old saying?

There are old pirates and bold pirates, but there are no old, bold pirates...

Somethin’ like that.

No lipstick?

Not offstage, no. And if I were a brunette I wouldn't need to resort to mascara. Basic rule of thumb: Paint belongs on walls and canvas!

Tattoos are for sheep. Everyone has them, it’s like walking into a giant carnival. I can’t imagine getting tattooed and having to look at the damn thing my entire life. And on females they look horrific.

Tattoos are like a tribal thing, like all the natives getting on tattooed up, then start piercing their skin, nose rings, jamming dinner plates in their lips, dog bones hanging from their ears etc.
