Once upon a time in America a presidential campaign was decided on the phrase “Rum, Romanism & Rebellion.” It was not exactly true, but it worked. Now, 125 years after that controversial campaign and election, the slogan shaping up for Democrats running against Donald Trump is another Triple R — “Russia, Race & Recession.” None of that is exactly true, either

Poor Duke. Here he was minding his own business, lecturing on government, and picking up trash along the roadways, as is his habit. And suddenly out of the blue along comes President Donald Trump, who trashed him for riding in a tank 30 years ago when Michael S. Dukakis, then governor of Massachusetts, was running for president

If you can strip away Niki Tsongas' lockstep voting record with Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, it's easier to rationalize her bid to be returned to Washington as our Fifth Congressional District representative. She's held dozens of Town Hall meetings and "Congress on Your Corner" get-togethers, and brought home $29.6 million in federal aid for transportation, education, health care and defense-related projects. If you think that is what a federal lawmaker should do, vote for Niki Tsongas. But if you believe there must be another dimension to the enormous responsibility and power held by the person representing the Fifth Congressional...

Leonard Abreu of West Townsend claims Joe Lieberman is not a true Democrat. Mr. Abreu is apparently upset that Sen. Lieberman supports the War Against Terrorism being waged in Iraq. Mr. Abreu claims "even though all the available evidence suggests everything Americans have been told regarding this so-called war is based upon false premises." Mr. Abreu's use of words such as "all" and "everything" and his failure to cite one example of either some evidence or even one false premise indicates he is more likely emoting rather than thinking rationally. Much of the evidence related to Saddam Hussein's intentions to...

On June 3, New York City's venerable oldies station WCBS-FM hit “shuffle” and kicked off a firestorm. At 5 p.m. that day, station owner Infinity Broadcasting suddenly fired its on-air staff -- which included former Monkee Mickey Dolenz and radio legend Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow -- and adopted a programming concept that's infiltrating radio markets across the nation. “Jack.” Or Ben. Or Dave. Or Bob. It can get confusing. A Burlington, Vt., station known for years as “Alice,” has since adopted the Jack format. It's radio's answer to the iPod, a shift away from tightly formatted playlists boasting Hot Adult...

It's about national security. That's the key issue on the minds of Americans planning to vote in the Nov. 2 presidential election. They must decide whether Republican President George W. Bush or Sen. John F. Kerry, a Democrat, can provide the leadership to safeguard America from foreign terrorism. Americans aren't fools. They know that without safe cities and towns, America will lose its greatness. Our cherished freedoms and sacred liberties will be diminished, along with our opportunities for economic prosperity and our basic pursuit of happiness. Our children and their children will live vastly different lives if we fail...
