The Chicago Police Department is losing cops at an “almost alarming” rate, and the city is having a hard time finding replacements. That’s the word from John O’Malley, the deputy mayor for public safety. O’Malley, other CPD leaders, and local politicians spoke Wednesday evening on a Zoom meeting organized by East Lakeview Neighbors (ELVN). In another highlight, State Sen. Sara Feigenholtz (6th) told participants that she is working on a “pack of bills” to address concerns with the state’s year-old, 600-plus page justice reform legislation.

Observers said that Lightfoot exploded into a frantic sprint after she saw Thomas Sowell approaching to interview her. According to sources, Lightfoot had recently said she "would only grant one-on-one interviews to journalists of color." Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed looters and rioters who descended upon the downtown area early Monday morning, calling the overnight events “an assault on our city” and telling criminals, “We are coming for you.” Police said more than 100 people were arrested and at least 13 officers were hurt over the course of the events. “We are waking up in shock this morning,” Lightfoot said. “These individuals engaged in what can only be described as brazen and extensive criminal looting and destruction. And to be clear, this had nothing to do with legitimate, protected First Amendment expression.”

Chicago Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot said illegal immigrants are always welcomed to her city, even if President Trump is the one sending them there. On Friday, Trump confirmed reports that he was seriously considering relocating asylum seekers who exceeded their 20 days in custody to Democratically controlled sanctuary cities nationwide. Lightfoot, who was recently elected mayor, appeared on CNN and reaffirmed the sanctuary policies in her city. She dismissed Trump as being “provocative” and told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper that her city has been dealing with asylum seekers for decades. Trump's threats are “much ado about nothing.”
