Hospitals in Mayor Sadiq Khan’s London resemble those in a war zone, a senior surgeon working to save victims of the capital’s surging violent crime wave said. The comments come after two more men were killed overnight, a couple of days after another night of violence saw a boy, 16, stabbed to death and a 17-year-old girl shot in a “drive by”. Wednesday night’s killings brought the death toll from suspected murder in the capital to 50 so far this year. Dr. Mark Griffiths, lead surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust in East London, said knife and gun wounds had...

An estimated 375 people turned out for the Germany-based PEGIDA movement's first demonstration in Britain on Saturday, but were outnumbered by a 2,000-strong crowd of counter-protesters, police said. PEGIDA has drawn large crowds in Germany to protest against what it calls the "Islamisation" of Europe, and small demonstrations have also taken place in Austria and Sweden. Police in the city of Newcastle, northeast England, said five men were arrested "for isolated incidents" but insisted both the PEGIDA march and the Newcastle Unites protest passed off smoothly. The five men, aged between 17 and 54, were arrested for alleged offences including...

A Muslim man who raped women to 'teach them a lesson' for being on the streets at night was jailed indefinitely today because of the danger he poses to women. Sunny Islam, 23, who comes from a strict Muslim family, dragged his terrified victims - including a 15-year-old - from the street at knifepoint, bound and assaulted them during a two-month reign of terror. Police fear that Islam may have attacked many more. Three of the assaults took place close to his home in Barking, east London, while a fourth occurred in nearby Forest Gate. Judge Patricia Lees, sentencing him...

My text for today is “Hold fast that which is good”: 1 Thessalonians 5:21. These are words I heard so regularly in prayers at my Anglican girls’ school that I have been unable to forget them. I draw them to the attention of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who seems to have forgotten them. At least, he seems to be losing his grip on what is good in this country and, indeed, to be throwing it away with both hands in his curious suggestion that aspects of sharia should be recognised in English law. In an interview on Radio 4 last...

BIRKENHEAD MP Frank Field has called for a halt to mass immigration to the United Kingdom. He described the current movement of people to the country as a "revolution" and likened it to "Stalin's forced migration of Ukraine." The former minister called on the Government to establish a quota system for migrant workers and to impose a ban on movement from the new EU member states until all European partners agreed to open up their labour markets. This is not the first time Mr Field has raised the immigration issue. Last month he warned that mainstream parties were "living on...
