Ivy Tech Community College and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging recognizes October as LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) History Month. In 1994, Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson realized that students were not learning about the LGBTQ+ people or the LGBTQ+ rights movement. After creating Lesbian and Gay History Month, Wilson served as the founder of the first coordinating committee. In 1995, The General Assembly of the National Education Association passed a resolution to commemorate October as LGBTQ History Month. October was chosen to coincide with National Coming Out Day which is October 11. Learn more...

It’s hard to dislike Judith Butler. If you’ve ever taken a Gender Studies class, you’ve probably read their work at one point or another. The term “gender performativity” is practically ubiquitous in queer, trans, and feminist theory discourse...

One of the dumbest stories currently happening in the country involves the Parental Rights in Education bill, which recently made it through the Florida legislature. It is now headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk, and he’s promised to sign it into law.So, why is a bill that simply provides more power to parents and more accountability to educators being so maligned? The answer is that it dares to disallow teaching sexual and gender ideology to Pre-K through third-grade students (that translates to ages 3-7). I know — the absolute horror of small children not being exposed to such things without...

"Reality is canceled," proclaimed a recent Huffington Post article, stating that the real world is officially "over" for not having as much LGBTQ representation as you see on Netflix shows. "Why is it that Netflix shows have 50% LGBTQ people, but real life only has a very small percentage of the population?" the article read. "If reality truly cared about LGBTQ people, it would insist on including billions and billions of them in its everyday programming." Reality was also criticized for insisting there are two biological sexes and that unborn babies are humans, further proving the author's point that...

The Trump administration is set to launch a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality in dozens of nations where anti-gay laws are still on the books, NBC News reported Monday. While on its surface, the move looks like an atypically benevolent decision by the Trump administration, the details of the campaign belie a different story. Rather than actually being about helping queer people around the world, the campaign looks more like another instance of the right using queer people as a pawn to amass power and enact its own agenda. It almost goes without saying but the Trump administration does not...

Urbana, IL — If you decide to desecrate an American flag and share photos of your big moment on social media, beware the wrath of the internet. A 22-year-old Illinois man learned that lesson after setting a flag on fire and sharing photos on his Facebook page. Bryton Mellott paired the photos with statements about violence and race in the U.S., according to a Forbes report. "I am not proud to be an American. In this moment, being proud of my country is to ignore the atrocities committed against people of color, people living in poverty, people who identify as...
