Demonstrators gathered in Rochester, New York, Friday for another night of protests, proudly declaring that they “shut shit down” and reportedly segregating demonstrators by race. For over a week, activists have taken to the streets of Rochester to protest the police-involved death of Daniel Prude, a black man who police restrained after he ran naked in the streets in March. He ultimately died of asphyxiation.

Jeremy Corbyn today vowed to stay on as Labour leader for months as his hard-Left faction fights to keep control of the party despite the disastrous election rout. The veteran MP dismissed calls to step down immediately after overseeing the most catastrophic Labour showing in a poll since 1935. Extraordinarily Mr Corbyn - who will have to face Boris Johnson in what promises to be an humiliating PMQs session next Wednesday - he also rejected the idea his appalling personal ratings and extreme policies were to blame. Labour's tally of MPs was slashed by 59 to just 203 in a...
  • Obama: Some people wonder why I’m so ‘even-keeled’

“I’m not going to spend a long time making a speech,” President Obama explained last night during a fundraiser in San Francisco last night, signalling that he would answer questions instead. “Most of you have been great friends for many years. Many of you supported me when I was running for the United States Senate, much less running for President. And so I think you know who I am and you know what I care about.” Instead, Obama began reminiscing about growing up in Hawaii, after he was introduced by a childhood friend, Pam Hamamoto. “It’s true that actually the...

Saddam thinks U.S. will beg for his help By JAMAL HALABY, Associated Press Writer Sun Jun 25, 2:14 PM ET AMMAN, Jordan - Saddam Hussein believes the United States will have to seek his help to quell the bloody insurgency in Iraq and open the way for U.S. forces to withdraw, his chief lawyer said Sunday. Khalil al-Dulaimi argued in an interview with The Associated Press that the former leader is the key to returning stability to Iraq. "He's their last resort. They're going to knock at his door eventually," the lawyer said. Saddam is "the only person who can...

FEW American presidential campaigns have been hatched in the King’s Arms, a venerable Oxford student pub. As fate would have it that is where Gary Hart, once a promising Democrat contender, met two impressionable Rhodes scholars to discuss politics over a pint a couple of years ago. After monkey business on a boat of that name with Donna Rice in 1988, Hart assumed his presidential ambitions were at an end. He was merely footling around Oxford doing some historical research. Yet the two youngsters, now back at Harvard in America, have become the most ardent champions of Hart for President...
