[Catholic Caucus] Savannah: Will The Roman Rite Be "Abolished" Church Wide in 2023?Savannah Bishop Stephen Parkes, Georgia, has issued July 15 guidelines for the Roman Rite.In April, he had asked the rigid Liturgy Congregation for permissions to celebrate the Roman Rite in several parish churches. A May response "allowed" a weekly Mass in one parish and a monthly Mass in three other parishes but only "until May 20, 2023."The Mass in Savannah Cathedral will be cancelled in August. While it is possible that the Liturgy Congregation wanted to give permission only for one year, Francis made it clear that he...

What attitude should a Catholic take toward cruel and arbitrary prelates – for example, those who endlessly stir up division and then shamelessly blame the division on those who note and bemoan the fact? In Quodlibet VIII, Aquinas makes some relevant remarks when addressing the question whether “evil prelates” should be honored. You can find the passage in the Nevitt and Davies translation of Thomas Aquinas’s Quodlibetal Questions, from which I quote: [snip] There are two key points here. The first is that when a man is a bad prelate, we should not pretend otherwise merely because of his office....

ADDRESS TO THE HOLY FATHER ADDRESS TO THE HOLY FATHER Holy Father, More than thirty years ago, under your predecessor, Pope Paul VI, a major reform modified the Latin rite of the Catholic Liturgy, especially the "Order of the Mass." This reform immediately raised troubles and controversies across the entire world. Some studies which were made, notably the "Brief Critical Examination of the Novus Ordo Missae" given to Pope Paul VI by Cardinals Ottaviani and Bacci, pointed out the troubling deficiencies and ambiguities affecting this reform. The Liturgy has certainly evolved over the course of history, as is shown by...

I have noticed over time a lot of debate between Novus Ordo and the Tridetine Mass. I know it is a heated subject, but I admit I haven't followed the debate as closely as I would have liked. I would love to hear everyone's pros/cons of the two masses, which one they prefer, and any predictions for the future. Something else interesting would be in the not-so-proud tradition of the liberal modernists and their design-o-Mass, maybe individual Freepers would care to put their two cents in, I am sure it would be far more reverent than the design-o-mass. PLEASE keep...

Is the Pope Catholic...Enough?March 9, 2003 By CHRISTOPHER NOXON  The first sign that something unusual was going on up the hill was theappearance of a fleet of brand-new Volkswagen bugs, lined up on a muddybluff like a row of oversize Easter eggs.  It was a local handyman whospotted them while he was out on a walk through this little valley in themountains northwest of Los Angeles, near Malibu.  Neighbors had already been talking about the 16-acre property on the valley's south slope, and soonword spread that a church group called Holy Family had purchased the sitewith plans to break ground...

    >SOFIA, Bulgaria, DEC. 24, 2002 (Zenit.org).- The resurgence of a new Catholic cathedral in Sofia is due in no small measure to John Paul II's visit to the country. Last May 23, the very day the Pope arrived in Sofia, the government approved the construction of the cathedral, dedicated to St. Joseph, in the historic center of the capital. An Orthodox cathedral, a mosque and a synagogue are also located in the center of Sofia, near the headquarters of the Parliament and government, Vatican Radio noted. The new building is located where once stood the old cathedral, destroyed by bombings...
