Latinx workers have endured worse economic outcomes from the pandemic than white workers due to a lack of remote-work access, steep job losses and pre-existing wage and health-care disparities, a new report says. The virus’s economic impact fell particularly hard on Latina workers, who were overrepresented in the industries most devastated by COVID-19-induced shutdowns, according to the analysis by the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank.

You all know by now that I’m into beauty pageants given that I grew up in Puerto Rico, aside from the fact that my best friend’s daughter is the current Miss Puerto Rico. She’ll be participating in the Miss Universe Pageant in December 2019. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts about this subject, Donald Trump has been to the island numerous times and we got to know him quite well when he was the owner of Miss Universe, Inc. Previous post about Trump’s pageant organizational skills: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3763583/posts People call President Trump a “Racist”, which is so untrue. I’ve just analyzed...

A group of Latina students at a ritzy private college in Southern California recently covered the exterior wall of a residence hall with a large graffiti-style message declaring: “White Girl, Take OFF your hoops!!!” The scene of the spray-paint fracas is Pitzer College, reports the Claremont Independent, a student newspaper. Pitzer, a member of the five-school Claremont Consortium, charges $66,192 for a single year of tuition, fees and room and board. The word “hoops” in the ultimatum from the Latina students refers to hoop earrings.

There are not enough Latinas in political and elected positions, and those who have gotten there know it takes a lot more than the energy and desire to do it...The Colombian native said her desire to be in a position where she could be "more influential" and "have a stronger voice" to advocate for children is what encouraged her to run..."We want to have the infrastructure in place so that when Latinas decide to do run for office, they can do it, they can do it well and they can excel," she added.

2 minute video at link. Donald Trump brought a woman holding a "Latinas for Trump" sign onto the stage during his first of three rallies on Sunday. The Republican nominee spotted the sign in the crowd as he spoke in Las Vegas, and grabbed it from the attendee. Trump told the woman to "say hello real quick" once she walked onto the stage. "I'm a Latina for Trump and I'm very proud to vote for Mr. Trump because he's for law and order. And he wants things to be right," she said. "You have to come into this country legally....

On election night 2016, the nation’s attention might be focused on Nevada, where Republicans have their most promising, and probably their only realistic, chance to capture a Democratic Senate seat. Harry Reid, Senate minority leader, is retiring, and Republicans’ hopes of retaining their majority might depend on Joe Heck replacing Reid. He is a strong candidate for his party, as his opponent is for hers. Catherine Cortez Masto is a former two-term state attorney general who won reelection even against the 2010 anti-Democratic wave. She would be the Senate’s first Latina. Heck, an emergency room physician and a brigadier general...

Miriam Cepeda is probably one of few — a 24-year-old Latina and a self-proclaimed “Trump girl” on the South Texas border — and she wants you to know it. She volunteers for Donald Trump’s campaign in an area where 90% of its population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, and she lives in Texas’ Hidalgo County. Proof that not all of Texas votes Republican, President Barack Obama won 70% of the vote there in 2012. This is also not far from where Trump wants to build his wall with Mexico....

American Latinos for Donald Trump expressed outrage on Monday against the mainstream media for coverage given to Hispanics who support Trump – specifically pointing to a Politico article published on Sunday titled, “The lonely lives of Latinos for Trump.” Mark F., who wishes to leave his last name anonymous, was interviewed by Politico and briefly mentioned in the article because he produced many videos for a group on Twitter, “Latinos for Trump.” He said he thought it was unfair that Politico portrayed Latinos as lonely. “I am not ‘Lonely.’ My whole family is voting for Trump. I am very vocal...

Donald Trump has promised to build a wall along the southern border. He’s referred to Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals. He's attacked the Republican Hispanic governor of New Mexico. He’s done much to alienate Latino voters since entering the presidential race, yet according to some polls he’s running ahead of 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney among them. Trump and his surrogates frequently cite online NBC News/SurveyMonkey polls that have Trump winning just under a third of the Hispanic vote, more than Romney’s 27-percent performance against President Barack Obama. But other polling shows Trump well below historical benchmarks for winning...

MIAMI – Shortly after Ted Cruz and John Kasich abandoned the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Denise Galvez found herself in a conundrum. The Cuban-American public relations guru had voted for Sen. Marco Rubio in the March Florida primary that he lost by double digits to the eventual nominee, Donald Trump. “I have known Rubio for a long time,” Galvez said. “I thought he was the best candidate.” She could have either sat out the general election, temporarily switch her allegiance to the Democrats, vote for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, or cast her ballot for Trump, a candidate who...

Complete Headline: The Daily 202: Trump’s attacks on the GOP’s most prominent Latina, Susana Martinez, should alarm Republicans During a 65-minute speech in Albuquerque last night, Donald Trump laced into New Mexico Republican Gov. Susana Martinez. He blamed her for the state’s economic problems, for the growing number of food stamp recipients and for not doing more to reject Syrian refugees. The billionaire even mused about moving to the state to run for governor himself. [Snip] [Trump's] language was quite gendered. Trump called Hillary a "low-life" and then went on to imitate the way she talks, raising his voice to...

"I actually grew up in a neighborhood just like this – it was on the South Side of Chicago," the First Lady said. "A place where people worked hard to support their families, and where families were close and loving and had strong values." Obama spoke about growing up in a very small apartment with her brother and her parents. She said she shared a room with her brother that was divided by a wooden partition. “My room was so small that, when I held out my arms I could almost touch both walls at the same time.”

LATINA FOR TRUMP!!!! I LOVE YOU DONALD! I am a Mexican American woman from Texas just 4 hours from the border and I LOVE Donald Trump! He is the last hope for America. Don't believe the mainstream media. They lie! Many latinos and women ADORE Mr. Trump. If you are latino and think I am racist or a "sell-out" for loving Donald, its because you are a racist towards white people. Think about it, you are judging white people to be racist which is racist itself!

In Scialabba v. Cuellar de Osorio, both Justices Kagan and, to a lesser extent, CJ Roberts use some pretty strong language to characterize Justice Sotomayor’s dissent. From Kagan’s opinion: •The dissent responds to this fact only with a pair of non-sequiturs. Post, at 18–19 (opinion of SOTOMAYOR, J.). •but cf. post, at 14 (SOTOMAYOR, J., dissenting) (wrongly stating that under that rule conversion occurs upon the agency’s re- ceipt of proof of the change). •It is, therefore, impossible to understand the dissent’s statement that conversion of such a petition to an appropriate category requires “ ‘substantive alteration’ to [the] petition.”...

Maria Conchita Alonso, the Cuban-Venezuelan actress who counts as one of her best-known films “Moscow on the Hudson” with Robin Williams, is drawing controversy over a political ad in which she appears with a California Tea Party lawmaker who is running for governor. Several Latino organizations criticized the actress for endorsing Tim Donnelly, an assemblyman who founded a state chapter of the Minutemen, an armed vigilante border patrol group, and who has pushed for a hard line on immigration.
