It is the end of an era in Las Vegas as one of the most famed hotels and casinos on the Strip was demolished in the early morning hours of Tuesday. The final tower of the Riviera was reduced to little more than rubble a little over a year after the city's first high-end casino shut its doors in May of last year. Long known as a classic mob joint featured in films such as Oceans 11 and Diamonds are Forever, the Riviera also hosted the residences of famed Vegas performances including Liberace and Dean Martin during its heyday.

If the ghosts of Frank Sinatra and Liberace were still hanging around the Riviera Hotel and Casino on Monday morning, they wouldn't have found a seat at the bar. Crowds squeezed onto barstools and milled about the casino floor saying goodbye to "The Riv," a classic that spent 60 years on the Las Vegas Strip and closed at noon.

Two thirds of Brits ranked the glitzy US city number one, followed by Paris, then New York. Venice and Ibiza make up the top five destinations where holidaymakers are most likely to part with too much cash.

BOSTON -- A Peabody woman says a cupcake she tried to take on a flight with her sparked a potential security threat this week. Rebecca Hains says she was going through security at the airport in Las Vegas when a TSA agent pulled her aside and said the cupcake frosting was “gel-like” enough to constitute a security risk. She said she was able to pass through Logan International Airport security with two cupcakes, but she was stopped on the way back when she tried to return with one of them.

Hawker Beechcraft posts $42.2 million third-quarter loss BY MOLLY McMILLIN The Wichita Eagle Hawker Beechcraft on Monday reported an operating loss of $42.2 million in the third quarter, an improvement from losses of $81.4 million for the same period a year ago. The company delivered 38 aircraft in the quarter, compared to 49 deliveries a year ago. The decline is due to supply disruptions that affected the production of the King Air, Hawker 4000 and piston aircraft, which delayed deliveries, the...

LAS VEGAS - A hearing officer says the Wynn Las Vegas casino-resort violated federal labor law when it fired a union leader last year. The administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board said in a ruling filed this week that Wynn targeted dealer Ronda Larson because she was notably active in the Transportation Workers Union. Larson was a longtime casino employee when she was fired in September 2009 after she helped organize for the union. Wynn managers say Larson was terminated because she was rude and insubordinate.

Lazy Clark County Nevada Voters!! Every election year some of us elect the same person in office. Some of us do this because we are lazy. We go with name recognition; we don’t really take a good look at the person we elect. It’s time for Clark County Nevada voters to take a stand, despite your political party we need to put country first. We need to take candidates personal views into consideration. When someone is a candidate for one office he or she most likely excel to a higher office or use their elected position to influence other candidates...
