Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell chimed in late Friday evening to congratulate now-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy weathered days of opposition, eventually offering enough concessions to secure the votes needed to break the logjam. Most of the conservatives involved seemed to walk away happy, garnering key positions on committees and rule changes that should bring the House back to some level of sanity. For his part, McConnell decided to drop the following message, and I’m officially dead. I cease to be alive. ... Leader McConnell - Congratulations to Speaker McCarthy and the Republican House majority. Senate Republicans look...

Fox News viewers are degenerate drug addicts, desperate for their next fix of government-hating heroin. That was the take of ex-Republican Congressman turned MSNBC analyst David Jolly on Katie Phang's show on Saturday morning. Jolly was reacting to the news that Speaker Kevin McCarthy will reportedly organize a Frank Church-style committee to investigate abuses in recent years by the FBI and CIA. Liberals loved that in the 1970s! Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

(The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.)Usually when a writer writes, “it was like a 15-round fight,” they’re engaging in hyperbole—but as RedState’s Nick Arama reported, Friday night’s vote for Speaker of the House did indeed go 15 rounds before Kevin McCarthy finally won after facing a rebellion from 20 Republicans who initially refused to vote for him. It was the longest speaker battle since 1853.California’s McCarthy finally won the speakership, but Florida congressman Matt Gaetz may have won the war. He was the leader of the pack of holdouts,...

Such a tough hombre, that Joe Scarborough! On Friday's Morning Joe, Scarborough said "I'd die before continuing to negotiate against myself" like Kevin McCarthy is doing. Scarborough alluded to McCarthy as "the snowflake, triggered, weak variety of Republicans that appear to be roaming Capitol Hill today." The table-pounding Muy Macho Joe said that instead of negotiating, he would "stare down" the holdout Republicans. Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST: Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the...

Donald Trump Jr. praised Conservative Republicans on Friday for achieving the “best deal” conservatives “have ever” received from GOP leadership as Republicans begin to coalesce behind Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for Speaker of the House. “Proud of my conservative friends in the house who just won the best deal the right has ever gotten from Republican Leadership,” he wrote. “We need to put petty personal disputes aside & do what’s best for the movement. This is a transformational deal that will change Congress for the better!” Proud of my conservative friends in the house who just won the best deal...

The House of Representatives has adjourned for the evening after California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy failed to win the speaker's gavel for the 11th time. The speaker election started Tuesday but McCarthy has fallen short of reaching the simple majority threshold needed to win in the 222-212 GOP-led House. The eleventh vote saw him secure 200 votes, while Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., secured 212. Former President Donald Trump received one vote, while Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern took 7. Twelve Republicans voted for another candidate. Reports have begun to circulate that the holdout Republicans have been asked to review a prospective...

Before the seventh round of voting for the next Speaker of the House began on Thursday — which Kevin McCarthy lost — the embattled Republican Party Leader was asked on his way to the House floor about his plan if he again failed to secure the 218 votes necessary to secure the gavel:We’re just gonna keep working til we solve it. Look, look you’re going to go in here, we’re gonna have votes; nothing is going to change. What we’re doing is we’re having really good progress in conversations. … Nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to. I...

Tomorrow is January 6. J6. Imagine the exploding Democrat heads if President Donald Trump is elected Speaker of the House on that anniversary. CHAOS! I think this is a win-win in a yuuuuge way. First of all it resolves the current deadlock in the House on the Speakership vote. And the votes for Trump would come from both conservatives and from the McCarthy camp since it would be the only way he would get his PRECIOUSSSSSSSS as long as he waits for Trump to step down in April. By that time Speaker of the House Trump would have instituted changes...

House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries launched a fundraising effort to capitalize off of congressional Republicans’ gridlock failure to elect a new speaker. “Republicans have now failed 6 times to elect a Speaker of the House. This hasn’t happened in over 100 years,” Jeffries, the first African-American leader, said in an emailed fundraising pitch for his own re-election campaign. “I’ll be blunt: Republicans are incapable of governing. And they’re putting politics over the American people. But if Democrats stick together in this historic moment, we have an opportunity to show how powerful we are.”

On Tuesday, Trump-endorsed Kevin McCarthy failed three times to win the vote for US Speaker of the House. It was the first time in 100 years that Speakership was not decided in the first vote. Kevin McCarthy lost the third vote for House Speaker on Tuesday afternoon, with 20 Republicans voting for Rep. Jim Jordan. The winning Republican can only afford to lose four votes! He must reach 218 votes to win the Speakership. And the GOP holds a narrow 222 to 212 majority in the chamber. On Wednesday morning McCarthy lost a 4th time! Then a fifth time. And...

Kevin McCarthy revealed he had “dinner” with billionaire Klaus Schwab at the World Economic Forum in 2018 during remarks he made on a panel with Mitch McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, a shipping heiress of Chinese descent. McCarthy attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in 2018, the same year 45th President Donald Trump spoke to the elite group of wealthy businessmen, politicians, and journalists. During a 30-minute panel discussion with Chao, formerly Trump’s Secretary of Transportation, and Kirstjen Nielsen, formerly Trump’s Secretary of Homeland Security, McCarthy remarked on having “dinner” with Schwab during the World Economic Forum while describing...

The conservative and influential Club for Growth announced it cut a deal with the super PAC affiliated with House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), signaling possible movement in the House speaker race after a stalemate had resulted in no speaker through six rounds of voting as of Wednesday afternoon. The deal with the McCarthy-affiliated super PAC, the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), involves CLF agreeing to stay out of open-seat Republican primaries in safely red districts, as well as CLF vowing not to enable other super PACs to do the same.

The wannabe House Speaker's office wheeled in a dolly cart full of pizzas last night. It was a long, rough day for California Republican Kevin McCarthy as he repeatedly failed to secure the votes to become Speaker of the House amid a far-right mutiny. Holed up in his office (or not his office), he did what anyone would in a moment of crisis: he ordered pizza. Reporters captured a dolly cart wheeling in boxes upon boxes of carby cargo. A dolly cart! Internet sleuths quickly identified the logo as belonging to Wiseguy Pizza, a mere mile away. As a food editor,...

NBC’s Chuck Todd said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell’s Reports” that former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for speaker after Tuesday’s failed votes did not get a “single new vote” today. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE “HOUSE” TWICE!”

Former President Trump on Tuesday declined to say whether he will stick by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) as his bid to become Speaker appeared to hit a wall. “We’ll see what happens,” Trump told NBC News in a phone conversation when asked if he stands by his endorsement of McCarthy. “I got everybody calling me wanting my support,” Trump told NBC. “But let’s see what happens and we’ll go — I got everybody calling, wanting my support. That’s all I can say. But we’ll see what happens. We’ll see how it all works out.”
