People in a nearby fishing boat noticed the crash and called for help. They also flagged down the boat operator who hit her, officials stated. "I just hope there wasn’t some chemicals or intoxication involved given it’s a holiday weekend," area resident Juan Barrera said. The boat was believed to be an "approximately 50-foot power vessel," sheriff's Lt. Deryl Walker told the Los Angeles Times. The operator of the boat, along with a woman who was on board, were cooperating with law enforcement, authorities said. Furthermore, there was no evidence of a crime, according to officials.

A whale nearly swallowed two people on a kayak and a woman on a surfboard. The humpback whale lunged from out of nowhere just several feet away, forcing thousands of anchovies to the surface, with sea gulls swarming around the scene in search of breakfast. Barbara Roettger filmed the epic near-miss event near Santa Cruz, California where recently a sailboat collided with another humpback whale and at least one kayaker capsized. Oh, and for the record, humpback whales typically are about 50 feet long and weigh 50 tons. That’s a whopping 2000 pounds for every foot of whale. Short be...

He was struck by a 1,150-ton train heading west toward Asheville, Norfolk Southern spokesman Robin Chapman said. DeLaVergne was airlifted to Mission Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead. National Geographic Adventure magazine named DeLaVergne a 2005 adventurer of the year for paddling the 50-mile run of the...
