On MSNBC’s AM Joy, guest Fernand Amandi made outlandish claims against the Republican party, accusing the GOP of being a “domestic terror group” which should be locked up. As Newsbusters journalist Brad Wilmouth reported, the comments came after host Joy Reid asked Mr. Amandi a routine question. "We know that Florida has a large abundance of people who are on CHIP. In a state like that, can the members of Congress from Florida afford not to renew CHIP? And why haven't they pushed for it?”, asked Reid. CHIP stands for the Children's Health Insurance Program. Amandi's response included typical Democrat...
  • GOP Needs 'Courage of Convictions' (Katon Dawson's case for RNC Chair)

The election has come and gone, and we’ve all seen the reports of the Republican Party’s untimely demise. Some say Republicans were too conservative, that we’ve become a regional party and that we’re clinging to an old playbook. As a Republican, I can tell you that nothing could be further from the truth, and we are alive and kicking. That doesn’t mean the Republican Party isn’t in need of new ideas, new messengers and a new focus in order to move forward as a party. Losing elections brings change, and change is coming to the Republican Party. What really cost...
  • Dawson’s Whites-Only Country Club Past Gets GOP Attention

Just as soon as South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson announces that he’s running to chair the national party, a story is disseminated by his opponents (note: fellow Republicans) referring to his recent membership in a whites-only country club. Dawson left the club in August, days before he first suggested that he might be looking to the national stage. As usual, the story says more about backwards South Carolina than it does about Dawson. My absolute favorite part is where the reporter and some pundits do a little guessing on the reason for his separation from the club. “It’s...
  • A Winning Combination for the RNC? (Fred Thompson and Chuck Yob enter as a co-chairmen ticket?!)

The fight for the Chairmanship of the Republican National Committee (RNC) seems to have more players on the field than a football game. However, a few serious contenders are emerging from the field such as Katon Dawson and Michael Steele. In a new twist today former Presidential candidate and United States Senator Fred Thompson is poised to enter the race with a partner, Michigan National Committeeman Chuck Yob, as his co-chairman. Thompson would be the public face/spokesman of the RNC while Yob run the Party’s operations. This partnership of Thompson and Yob could be the winning combination. Already they seem...
  • Race for RNC Chairman Open Thread

The following names have been bantied about regarding the race for the RNC Chair: Katon Dawson - South Carolina GOP Chair Newt Gingrich - former Speaker of the House Jim Greer - Florida GOP Chair Saul Anuzis - Michigan GOP Chair Each one has their strong points and weak points. I love Newt, but I don't know if he's suited for the chairmanship. It seems like we need a talented grassroots organizer to build the party from the ground up. Of course fundraising is an important skill as well. Please post your thoughts.
  • Grass Roots Brush Off Rove Issue

Republican state chairmen yesterday said their party's rank and file solidly support Karl Rove in the face of intensified Democratic criticism of the senior White House adviser that some called a political smear job to exploit an ongoing CIA leak investigation. Republican officials across the country said that outside of a flurry of phone calls and e-mail from party activists rallying to Mr. Rove's defense, the attacks and counterattacks were an inside-the-Beltway story that had no political traction among voters at the grass-roots level. "You can judge a controversy by reading the e-mails and the phone calls [from Republicans], and...
  • Expect "Real War" in South Carolina Senate Race

Expect ‘real war’ in Senate race By LEE BANDY Staff Writer Now comes the tough task — winning the U.S. Senate seat in November. Nothing is guaranteed. Whoever wins will have to earn it. The challenge for both Democratic nominee Inez Tenenbaum and Republican victor Jim DeMint is to win a lion’s share of the state’s 280,000 swing voters. Those voters are going to determine this race. There are not enough Democrats or Republicans to elect one of their own to statewide office. According to most recent exit polls, 40 percent of South Carolinians call themselves Republicans, 32 percent Democrats...
