The trusty travelers’ check could be dying a death among British holidaymakers, a new study has revealed. Just one in twelve have used them in the past year and most people now prefer cash or cards. The survey examined the financial habits and preferences of Britons abroad, questioning more than 1,800 UK adults who had been to foreign parts in the last 12 months. Asked what kind of money they took away with them, the majority (78 percent) said hard cash, with 56 percent choosing debit or credit cards and 34 percent taking prepaid cards. Of the eight percent who...

Yesterday Academy Award winning actor Karl Malden died at age 97 of natural causes at home with his family. His long and varied career was rich with intelligently crafted roles. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Mona, two daughters Karla and Mila, three granddaughters and four great grandchildren. It was a little over five years ago that I had the privilege of meeting Karl Malden for the first time at his home in West Los Angeles along with his kind and beautiful wife Mona. I was there to do an interview that would later be published in...

"Nevada Smith"-classic western starring one of my favorite movie cowboys, the legendary Steve McQueen is on Turner Classic Movies today at 12:00 PM EST. Co-starring Brian Keith as his foster father, Karl Malden, Martin Landau, Arthur Kennedy as his adversaries, Raf Vallone as a compassionate and wise priest and the late and lovely Suzanne Pleshette(in one of her best performances as the smoky voiced Cajun named Pilar), Janet Margolin and Joanna Moore(in an unbilled part) as the women in his life. Directed by Henry Hathaway("The Sons of Katie Elder") and a great score by Alfred Newman. Definitely worth catching if...

CONFIDENTIAL MEMO DATE. September 26, 2002 TO: Senator Tom Dachshund FROM Barbra Streisand/Margery Tabankin RE. Your fantabulous speech! As all the world is aware, Brbara Streisand is preparing for her ninth-annual farewell tour, as well as finishing her first-ever, all-by-herself reading of “Green Eggs and Ham,” so she ordered me to “shut the hell up and write down what I want you tell that little guy on the television, you filthy worthless peasant!” Naturally, Brabra's not surprised to see the Busch administration say mean things about peoples of color and those who are less heterosexual than the magority. They’ve always...
