More than 150 days ago, President Barack Obama nominated Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. attorney general following Eric Holder’s decision to step down. More than 48 days ago, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to confirm Lynch as the top law enforcement official in the nation. And yet, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., still refuses to schedule a vote. At a time when key issues important to the American people like protection of voting rights, law enforcement accountability/reform and oversight of numerous areas demand leadership, McConnell and many in his party are stalling.

A racially charged shooting incident in North Carolina with eerie parallels to the Trayvon Martin drama has ended in the same way – with a jury refusing to hand state authorities the politically pressured charges they sought against the shooter. In a decision angering the NAACP and other civil-rights activists clamoring for “justice,” a Charlotte grand jury has declined to indict Charlotte Police Officer Randall Kerrick for voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 24-year-old black man who refused to obey orders to stop after police responded to a robbery call.

The man who was shot to death in north Minneapolis on Friday has been identified. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 23-year-old DeShaun Guilmant of St. Cloud.

CHICAGO — The Rev. Jesse Jackson was arrested Saturday at a demonstration outside a south suburban gun shop and charged with one count of criminal trespass to property. Jackson was arrested when he refused to move away from the entrance to Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, police said. He has protested with other community activists outside the shop in recent weeks after a 16-year-old honor student was gunned down on a city bus.
