As a general matter, it has always been my view that when you begin a legal argument with a “The Sky is Falling” pronouncement, where the “warning” tells the Court nothing that it does not know already, you are actually insulting the intelligence of the Judge — or in this case the Justices — by wasting time with useless theatrics. In a major win for religious liberty, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 on Wednesday that employers with moral or religious objections would be exempt from the federal mandate that requires company health insurance to cover birth control. The Supreme Court, by a 5-4 majority, has once again vindicated the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms as constitutionally guaranteed by the Second Amendment. The Court today extended to the states and local governments its 2008 ruling that individuals have a federally protected individual right to keep and bear arms, questioning the constitutionality of Chicago’s outright handgun ban and sending the case back to the federal appeals court for further consideration.
