There was more drama today at Donald Trump’s New York fraud case. As you may recall, Trump attended part of the trial earlier this month and something he (or someone in his name) posted on Truth Social about Judge Engoron’s court clerk got him in trouble. It led to Judge Engoron putting a gag order in place forbidding any mention of court personnel. “Personal attacks on members on my court staff are unacceptable, inappropriate, and I won’t tolerate it,” he said. That seemed to be the end of it at the time as the Truth Social post was pulled down. But...

Below is my column in The Hill on the imposition of a gag order on former President Donald Trump by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan. Despite my long-standing criticism of Trump’s personal attacks on judges and critics, this gag order should be curtailed or struck down on appeal. While the odds tend to favor the lower court in such orders, there is ample reason to object to the scope and language of the order. The ill-defined bar on criticizing the prosecution or witnesses (including one of Trump’s opponents in this election) raises serious free speech concerns. It is also unlikely...

Maryland authorities said a judge was the victim of "a targeted attack" when he was gunned down outside his home Thursday night. Law enforcement is looking for Pedro Argote in the killing of Washington County Circuit Court Assistant Judge Andrew Wilkinson. Authorities said there was a hearing earlier on Thursday, during which Wilkinson awarded child custody to a woman in Argote's divorce. Argote was not present for that proceeding, they said.

A Maryland judge was killed in an apparent shooting at his home Thursday evening in what police described as a homicide. Judge Andrew Wilkinson, 52, had served as an associate circuit court judge in Washington County since 2020. He was found in the driveway of his home in the western Maryland city of Hagerstown around 8 p.m. after local police responded to a shooting on Olde Waterford Road. Wilkinson was hospitalized but later pronounced dead, according to the county sheriff's office. A state delegate said that police are still searching for the suspect, who has not yet been named. A...

President Joe Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge David Herrera Urias issued a decision Wednesday allowing New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (D) ban on concealed carry in parks and playgrounds to remain in effect. On September 13, 2023, Breitbart News reported that Urias granted a temporary injunction against Grisham’s September 8, 2023, ban, which prohibited concealed and open carry in larger New Mexico cities like Albuquerque. The ban applied to licensed concealed carriers, too.

NEW YORK — The judge overseeing former President Trump’s New York fraud trial issued a limited gag order for all parties on Tuesday after Trump’s Truth Social account made a post targeting the judge’s principal clerk while she sat just feet away from him in the courtroom. Judge Arthur Engoron issued the gag order barring Trump and any party in the case from posting or speaking publicly about members of his staff after Trump released personally-identifying information about his principal clerk on Truth Social while the hearing was underway.

Donald Trump praised Judge Arthur Engoron for a "very fair" ruling at the end of the first day of his New York fraud trial Monday, which, according to the former president, means that "80% of this case would be over." At issue was the New York Attorney General Letitia James's office calling of Mazars accountant Donald Bender as a witness about valuations used for Trump Organization's tax returns in 2011. However, it fell outside of the statute of limitations for fraud that occurred only to 2014. "I trust that you can relate the 2011 documents to something that happened later,"...

The New York judge presiding over the civil fraud trial of former President Donald Trump was blasted on social media on Monday after cameras caught him smiling for the cameras as the trial got underway. Conservatives on social media immediately reacted with outrage on Monday when New York City Judge Arthur Engoron was briefly shown in the courtroom smiling and taking off his glasses to seemingly pose for cameras that were filming inside the courtroom. “This New York City judge is a partisan Democrat clown,” Article III Project founder and president Mike Davis posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Disgraceful.” “Just...

Last week Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that Trump and his two sons (and several other entities and people) were liable for overstating the value of his holdings. Essentially this was the civil case equivalent of finding him guilty of fraud.AdvertisementIn his 35-page ruling, Judge Arthur Engoron said Trump continually lied on his financial statements and was able to get favorable loan terms and lower insurance premiums as a result. Trump’s legal arguments defending the statements are based in “a fantasy world, not the real world,” Engoron wrote. The judge went on to say that the case was essentially a “documents case,”...

It was a given when a judge ruled against Donald Trump on the suit that New York State Attorney General Letitia James filed, alleging that Trump defrauded banks to obtain loans. The ruling revealed two interesting and important things about how leftists and their fellow travelers use the legal system and about the ideological corruption of leftist judges. It goes without saying that the verdict was a joke. The claim was that Trump lied to lenders to get better loan terms. Interestingly, none of the lenders complained, and Trump paid back every penny. More than that, commercial lenders have a...

A New York judge on Tuesday found former President Trump liable for fraud, handing a major legal victory to New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) in her sprawling civil case over Trump’s businesses. New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron granted James’s request to find Trump liable for the first of seven causes of action she has accused him of in the lawsuit. Engoron simultaneously denied Trump’s demand to toss the entire suit without trying the case. The non-jury trial on the remaining matters is set to begin Monday, barring Trump’s separate, last-minute effort for a delay. Engoron also...

Special counsel Jack Smith’s team urged the judge in its election interference case to reject a motion from former President Trump’s attorneys asking her to recuse herself. “There is no valid basis, under the relevant law and facts, for the Honorable Tanya S. Chutkan, United States District Judge for the District of Columbia, to disqualify herself in this proceeding,” prosecutors wrote. “Because the defendant’s motion fails to establish any bias by the Court, much less the deep-seated antagonism required for recusal, the Court has a duty to continue to oversee this proceeding.”

A federal judge in New Mexico on Wednesday issued a temporary restraining order against state Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s ban on carrying guns in Albuquerque and its surrounding county, on grounds it violated the U.S. constitution. U.S. District Court Judge David Urias said the governor's 30-day suspension of concealed and open firearm carry rights went against recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings and violated the rights of law-abding citizens to defend themselves. “They just want the right to carry their guns,” Urias said of the several plaintiffs who requested restraining orders on Lujan Grisham's Sept. 8 emergency public health order. The...

Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts via AP, File Trump's legal team is seeking to recuse DC Judge Tanya Chutkan since she for whatever reason hasn't already recused herself. Forget that we all see her bias, we know her bias, and it doesn't take a great legal mind to realize Trump will in no way have a chance with a judge who wants him put away in the first place. Just look at what Chutkan has had to say about Trump from Twitchy fave, @Techno_Fog: Trump seeks to recuse DC Judge Tanya Chutkan - Chutkan has suggested "Trump should be...

Texas must remove the floating barrier buoys the state placed in the Rio Grande River to deter illegal immigrant crossings, a federal judge ruled Wednesday — but Gov. Greg Abbott wasted no time in announcing he’d appeal. District Court Judge David Ezra ordered the wrecking ball-sized buoys be taken away by next Friday and banned the Lone Star State from adding any other structures in the Rio Grande — the international boundary between the US and Mexico in Texas — without prior approval from the feds. Soon after Ezra’s ruling Abbott released a statement, vowing that “Texas will appeal.” “This...
