BERLIN Aug. 23, 2004 — A German court on Monday, citing insufficient evidence, acquitted an imprisoned aide of the terrorist Carlos the Jackal of involvement in a deadly series of bombings in France in the early 1980s. International terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, better known as "Carlos the Jackal," is expected to testify in the Berlin trial of a German left-wing extremist. French authorities have agreed to transfer Sanchez to Berlin for his testimony under tight security.
