The Navy has dismissed charges against Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher’s platoon leader and ordered a review of its justice system. Lt. Jacob Portier was charged with covering up war crimes in connection with the Gallagher prosecution and faced trial in September. “Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson today dismissed all charges in the case of Lt. Jacob Portier,” a Navy statement said Thursday, according to the San Diego News-Tribune. “Richardson took this action in the best interest of justice and the Navy.” Richardson also ordered a review of the Navy’s Judge Advocate General Corps, which prosecuted Gallagher and Portier....

Suspecting overseas counterfeiters would target fans eager for NHL Winter Classic memorabilia, three federal agencies conducted a joint operation they say intercepted 792 items of fake sportswear. If the items were legitimate, they would be worth about $137,000, said Joseph Klaus, Customs and Border Protection port director for Pittsburgh. The fake sports memorabilia is a small part of the millions of dollars worth of counterfeit items that agents believe come into the Pittsburgh area annually, he said. "This is just something that will highlight the counterfeit problem we're facing," he said Wednesday while displaying some of the seized Penguins jerseys....

CAMP PENDLETON -- Prosecutors are contesting a recommendation that murder charges be dropped against Marine Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich for his role in the slaying of 24 civilians in the Iraqi city of Haditha in 2005. Statements from two Marines who testified against Wuterich should be sufficient to send the case to trial on some or all of the 17 murder charges he faces, multiple sources who have seen the prosecutor's arguments said Tuesday. Earlier this month, the investigating officer in Wuterich's case, Lt. Col. Paul Ware, recommended that all the murder accusations be dismissed. His recommendations in cases of...

McKeesport man hopes to build a Hollywood on the Mon Thursday, May 10, 2007 By Margaret Smykla Even with a cigar clenched in his teeth and lots of padded girth, no one would confuse McKeesport's John Yost with film mogul Louis B. Mayer. Then again, no one would confuse Glassport with Hollywood. But a Tinseltown on the Mon could be on its way if Mr. Yost can work out a deal for property in Glassport on which he wants to expand his fledgling film studio. < -- snip -- > Sandy Urbanski, former president of the Glassport Development Corp., is...

When CBS announced the retirement of disgraced news anchor Dan Rather, did you first check with the Internet bloggers, also known as the pajamahadeen, before you believed it? If you checked, that might be because of the CBS credibility gap Dan Rather helped widen a few days before Election Day. Unbelievable things also happen in our little slice of heaven around here. You can read about some in today's stream of unconsciousness. Courage:
