San Francisco's Center for Sex and Culture played host on Saturday to the city's annual "Masturbate-a-thon," an event its organisers said could draw up to 120 people from across the United States aiming to have a good time with themselves. Carol Queen, director of the center, acknowledged that the event is unusual -- even by San Francisco's standards. The permissive city, which helped ignite a debate on gay marriage last year, tolerates many sorts of sexual behavior but masturbation seems a topic that is off-limits, she said. After a chase through Harvard Square, Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers arrested a man at around 7 p.m. yesterday for allegedly masturbating in public view in a Mt. Auburn Street window. The suspect will now be questioned about alleged “lewd and lascivious behavior,” according to Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) spokesperson Steven G. Catalano. While the case falls under CPD jurisdiction, Catalano said that an HUPD officer who was in the area at the time assisted in the arrest. The arrest came after a chase that started in the area around Peet’s Coffee and Tea at 100 Mt. Auburn St....

AUGUSTA--It was a tough battle Saturday -- not between the golfers -- but between reporters and police officers over who had a larger presence at the protest just down the road from Augusta National Golf Club. After 10 months of threats, boycotts and countless media reports against the club's men-only policy, Martha Burk arrived with little more than two-dozen supporters and spent barely an hour before taking off in a Chevy Trail Blazer. Her numbers were drastically overshadowed by the 123 police officers, complete with more than 75 cruisers parked on site, not to mention a swarm of about 100...
