A lot of folks are talking about investing in Iraqi Dinar, well for anyone who cares here is my 2 CENTS worth. Yes, I have bought some Iraqi Dinar as a personal investment (at or BELOW the current exchange rate), and yes there is some risk. However, I find it interesting that many folks have spent large sums of money "investing" in Iraqi currency, and at times have spent MORE than what the currency is exchanged for here in Baghdad. I do not understand this, so I guess I am asking if any freepers out there have bought Iraqi Dinar,...

The upsurge in violence has worsened conditions for almost everyone and everything in Iraq, but the new currency. The Iraqi dinar is the winner as it has so far weathered the impact of mounting violence and car bombs that would have sent any other country’s currency tumbling. Since its launch in October, 2003, the new dinar has preserved its value vis-à-vis the U.S. dollar and other major countries. It is probably the only symbol of stability in a car torn by wars, civil strife and violence. However, Iraqi economists are not surprised to see the currency fending off the political...

Billions of dollars worth of new, hard-to- counterfeit Iraqi dinar bank notes are now officially in circulation throughout the country, the Coalition Provisional Authority reported today. The new money became the official currency of Iraq Jan. 15 after a three-month exchange period that also has involved the destruction of tons of Saddam Hussein-era notes, according to a joint CPA-Central Bank of Iraq news release. "The new dinar is a real improvement over the old," Ahmed Salman Jaburi, deputy governor of Iraq's Central Bank, asserted in the news release. Because the new money has security features that make it hard to...

Healing IraqToday was the first day 250 banks all over Iraq commenced the exchange of the old Iraqi currency(ies) with new unified notes recently printed abroad, in Britain I guess. It was surprisingly a peaceful and quiet day, contrary to all expectations and rumours circulating in Baghdad that banks would be targetted the first day they started the exchange process. Many Rafidain bank divisions across Baghdad received warnings and threat letters. My aunt works as a bank manager, and she found a letter on her desk a few days ago signed by a group called The Army Of Mohammed 'Jaish...
