Apple has posted the following statement on their Chinese website: We care deeply about our customers and take seriously concerns they have about their Apple products. After hearing reports from iPhone customers whose devices unexpectedly shut down, we thoroughly looked into these reports, and collected and analyzed devices. We found that a small number of iPhone 6s devices made in September and October 2015 contained a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air longer than it should have been before being assembled into battery packs. As a result, these batteries degrade faster than a normal battery and cause unexpected...

    1. Missing Dark Mode As with Android, for years a dark mode has been high on the list of iOS requests – and yet again Apple didn’t deliver it. 2. Goodbye Easy Access Widgets One of the larger changes made in iOS 10 is Apple’s decision to add widget support to its lockscreen and even some app icons for 3D Touch enabled devices (read: iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus). But what Apple didn’t touch on at the time was it has also removed them from the notification center. 3. Basic Keyboard Omissions Apple made some solid progress with the...

Drop-tests are always fun to watch, but I’ve always felt that the reliability of most of them is suspect simply because there are so many variables. Most involve someone dropping a phone by hand, and the distance is often as imprecisely measured as ‘waist height’ or ‘head height,’ making it hard to be sure both phones experienced exactly the same force. Dropping a phone from a hand can result in differences in initial angles, and releasing one side of the phone a fraction of a second before the other can impart a rotation to the device. In short, most drop-tests are more entertainment than science. But the...
