A group of former Navy Seals is training with a Tucson company to help make military operations in Iraq safer for troops. The former Seals are training to use a device, made by Ionatron Inc., to detonate roadside bombs in Iraq before U.S. troops encounter the explosives. The joint IED neutralizer was developed by Ionatron employees at Stennis Space Center. The machine, which can destroy, detonate and disable IEDs, can reach speeds of more than 25 mph.
