A group of White House interns joined the growing list of administration officials applying internal pressure to President Joe Biden to call for a permanent cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, sending him a letter late Tuesday that accuses him of having "ignored" the "pleas of the American people." The letter, first shared with NBC News and addressed to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, is supported by more than 40 interns who work in the White House and other executive branch offices, according to the text.

Milan Archbishop Mario Delpini has approved an overhaul of seminary formation amid plunging numbers of candidates in Europe’s largest Catholic archdiocese. A seven-page document outlining the changes noted that in the five years from 2017 to 2022, the annual number of new entrants to priestly formation in the archdiocese fell from 24 to 6. Delpini, who signed the document March 25, announced the “reconfiguration” of seminary training at a Chrism Mass in Milan Cathedral April 6. “I would like to inform this particular assembly that I have approved, on a trial basis for a three-year period, a reconfiguration of the...

Rep. Eric Swalwell is famous for yelling about Russian influence with outrageous claims against President Trump, even calling for a 'presidential crimes commission,' but based on a year-long investigation from Axios, he's the one who has some spy problems, and they ought to be embarrassing. He was China's idea of the perfect fool.According to a year-long investigation from Axios:A suspected Chinese intelligence operative developed extensive ties with local and national politicians, including a U.S. congressman, in what U.S. officials believe was a political intelligence operation run by China’s main civilian spy agency between 2011 and 2015, Axios found in a...

Unpaid interns are practically non-existent among Democratic presidential campaigns in 2019. But some top-tier candidates appear to be finding a creative way to tap unpaid talent: offering vague “fellowship” opportunities as volunteer positions. There’s no singular definition for a “fellow” among 2020 candidates and most this cycle don’t offer the option. But two leading contenders, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), give applicants who are selected a chance to participate in the campaign as volunteer fellows, without requiring compensation or academic credit. “Volunteers are asked to do something, workers are told,” Renée Hagerty, an executive council...

Has anyone been louder in advocating for a higher minimum wage than New York's Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer? He's bellowed that minimum wages should be raised to at least $12 an hour, attempting to shame Republicans for opposing him, by calling it, (kid you not), "a moral issue," as he put it. He's pretty much defined the Democratic Party in the minds of voters by his hammerings on the minimum wage. Then he went and put out an ad calling for unpaid interns. According to the New York Post: WASHINGTON – Sen. Schumer listed job openings for unpaid interns — but...

**SNIP** The data helped spur action in certain corners of Congress, but progress was halting and ad hoc — some offices offered need-based stipends, others imposed restrictions on intern pay or simply refused to budge on the issue. And, Vera says, “Senator Schumer’s office was one that we had reached out to to work with. They were not on board with paying their interns.” He characterizes the office’s response as: “‘We’re just not going to do it — we’re going wait until there is legislation.'” That was particularly disappointing for two reasons. First, as the minority leader, Schumer had a...

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday night confirmed she will pay her interns at least $15 an hour. “Time to walk the walk,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Very few members of Congress actually pay their interns. We will be one of them.” Her message came after The Washington Post confirmed with her chief of staff that she intended to pay her interns the amount. Her tweet comes the day after Ocasio-Cortez called for lawmakers to increase pay for their interns and staffers. The rising Democratic star, a self-described democratic socialist, tweeted Monday that she visited a restaurant in Washington where she met...

Ticket prices to see former President Bill Clinton and Hillary speak have gone as low as $7 in some locations– and the seats are still empty. Former President Bill Clinton and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have been touring the U.S. and Canada for months, with dates stretching into mid-2019. Unfortunately for the Clintons, people seem to be quickly losing interest in entertaining their nostalgia and opinions on the current state of the nation.

In a new interview set to air this weekend on CBS Sunday Morning, former President Bill Clinton will respond for the first time to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-NY) assertion that he should have resigned over the Lewinsky affair. “You have to—really ignore what the context was,” Clinton says, according to a CBS transcript. “But, you know, she’s living in a different context. And she did it for different reasons. So, I—but I just disagree with her."

Former president Bill Clinton was caught with his pants down again, getting ready to ogle pretty young girls in a viral photo. In the comical photo posted by Barstool Sports, Clinton is seen with his zipper undone as two hot blondes walk past him on what appears to be a college campus. The lack of context for the viral photo makes it even more hilarious, since Bill looks dazed and confused, like he doesn’t know why he's standing there on a sidewalk. It also does not appear that the former president is accompanied by any of his chaperones or...

Briony Whitehouse was a 19-year-old intern in 2003 when she boarded an elevator in the Russell Senate Office Building with a Republican senator who, she said, groped her until the doors reopened. She never reported the incident to her bosses for fear of jeopardizing her career. But she recently tweeted about her experience on Twitter as part of the #MeToo campaign, a social-media phenomenon that has aired thousands of complaints about sexual harassment. Some of the accounts have called out by name Hollywood moguls, media stars, even a former U.S. president. Other women such as Whitehouse have stopped short of...

It’s normal to expect a certain level of scrutiny when a company wants to hire an intern. That scrutiny is not usually based on swimwear. A Czech nuclear power station seemed to focus more on looks than qualifications when they used a swimsuit contest — yes, swimsuit contest — to hire interns. CEZ’s Temelín station posted photos of 10 high school graduates posing in bikinis and hard hats on its Facebook page last week. According to the post, the woman with the greatest number of likes was supposed to be crowned “Miss Energy 2017” and score a two-week internship with...

Is the party—the Republican party, that is—over? That's what Joe Scarborough is predicting. On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough surmised that "Donald Trump, by the end, will blow apart the Republican party" and that people are "going to look at George W. Bush as the last Republican president." Scarborough depicted Trump as "in a sense, the first independent president." Joe also suggested that Bernie Sanders might have the same party-demolishing impact on the Democrats. View the video here.

For Dordt College student Ryan McDermott this summer has been about learning. McDermott, who will be a sophomore this fall, recently completed a six-week internship working with U.S. Rep David Young in Washington, D.C. One of his highlights was seeing the development of Sarah’s Law being introduced to Congress at the U.S. Capitol. Young and Nebraska Rep. Brad Ashford introduced the legislation to honor 21-year-old Iowan Sarah Root who was killed in Omaha by an undocumented immigrant in January. The alien fled after making bail and hasn’t been found. The law seeks to amend mandatory detention provisions in place under...

The next day, all of us who signed the petition were called into a meeting where we thought our proposal would be discussed. Instead, we were informed that due to our “unprofessional” behavior, we were being let go from our internships. We were told to hand in our ID badges and to gather our things and leave the property ASAP. We were shocked. The proposal was written professionally like examples I have learned about in school, and our arguments were thought out and well-reasoned. We weren’t even given a chance to discuss it. The worst part is that just before...
