International Paper Co. is cutting jobs and Memphis could bear the brunt of it. The world's largest paper company, based in Stamford, Conn., is reducing management and staff positions across the company as part of an ongoing effort to reduce costs and improve customer service to improve profitability, IP confirmed Thursday. Stacy Wygant, company spokesman, said employees were notified at the end of June. It's unclear if the layoffs will happen worldwide or just in the United States.
