Carl Icahn, the billionaire investor and corporate raider, said that the American economy could be in for a “recession or even worse” as policymakers struggle to bring rapid inflation under control. “I have kept everything hedged for the last few years,” the founder and chairman of Icahn Enterprises told CNBC. “We have a strong hedge on against the long positions and we try to be activist to get that edge … I am negative, as you can hear. Short-term I don’t even predict.” Icahn sounded a pessimistic note as to whether Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s plan for further rate hikes...

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn spoke to CNBC via telephone this morning and had some very ominous warnings after what he has seen in the last few days. Reflecting on the market’s moves recently, Icahn shocked the anchors by saying: “This is something we’ve never seen before… I don’t remember ever seeing a market with this kind of volatility over two weeks.“ “The market has become a much more dangerous place [due to index funds and ETFs]… it’s like 2008 where everyone was buying mortgages and CDS.” Concluding that: “Passive investing is the bubble right now.” “There is going to be...

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn said Friday he has stepped down as a special adviser to President Trump on regulatory reform. He said in a letter to Trump that he was stepping down with the president's "blessing" and "because I did not want partisan bickering about my role to in any way cloud your administration." Icahn has been criticized by Democrats who said his advisory role created a conflict of interest because he had not taken a formal government job and was still running his businesses. In March, Icahn told CNNMoney that the those allegations were "absurd" and "completely ridiculous." He...

Billionaire investor and Trump supporter Carl Icahn speaks with Fox Business Network's Neil Cavuto about the president-elect's proposals to reduce regulations on business and the energy industry, why working people supported Donald Trump, and whether or not he would consider taking a role in the Trump administration. About Trump's appeal to working people, Icahn said: "The pundits all wonder what happened, but I think it was extremely simple... Think of a middle-class guy working out in the middle west. The real question is not why did he vote for [Trump], but why wouldn't he vote for him?" "I said to...

In a wide-ranging interview on CNBC Wednesday afternoon investor Carl Icahn weighed in on the economy, Donald Trump's presidential campaign and his speech on the economy, the future of the dollar, why the American worker should vote for Trump and much more. Icahn said Trump's speech on the economy was "right on" and he should win "hands down." He also said Trump will appeal to the Archie Bunker's of the world. "I think it's extremely important for this country to see Trump win," he said. "I have nothing against Hillary Clinton. You know, I'm not going to get into personal...

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn wrote a letter Thursday to the soon-to-be unemployed workers of the Trump Taj Mahal casino, accusing their union of inciting them to destroy their own jobs by participating in the longest strike by Atlantic City's main casino workers union. Icahn told the workers that officials of Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union knew that the company had made its final offer, but rejected it anyway, knowing a strike would result.

Donald Trump has been gone from Atlantic City for years, but his name has lived on in glowing neon on the façade of a casino he no longer owned. But later this year, the Republican presidential nominee’s name will disappear from the seaside gambling resort — along with 3,000 jobs. The Trump Taj Mahal casino, opened 26 years ago by Trump, announced Wednesday that it will shut down after Labor Day. The business now belongs to Trump’s friend and fellow billionaire Carl Icahn, who decided he can no longer support a casino losing millions of dollars each month amid a...

"...Icahn, who Trump had previously suggested could serve as his Treasury secretary, warned that markets will have a "day of reckoning" without fiscal stimulus, and argued that the U.S. government "certainly could do more spending." "The Republican Party that I used to be more sympathetic with — I'm right in the middle now, although as you know I'm for Trump — but what I would say is Congress is in this massive gridlock," he said, explaining that the Republican-controlled body is "obsessed with this deficit to a point that I think it's almost pathological..." Billionaire Carl Icahn, who last year produced a video warning of the “danger ahead†for the US economy, may need to focus on fixing his own publicly listed company. Standard & Poor’s warned Friday that the activist investor’s $6.3 billion holding company was in danger of being downgraded to junk after taking a big hit on energy and commodity bets. The credit ratings firm placed Icahn Enterprises on watch with “negative implications,†adding there is “at least a one-in-two likelihood that we may lower the ratings within the next 90 days.â€

Billionaire investor and longtime Donald Trump supporter Carl Icahn announced he is launching a $150 million super PAC to revise corporate tax law. Trump has indicated Icahn may be his choice for Treasury secretary should he win his bid for president. Icahn, in a letter to House and Senate leaders, said he wants Congress to pass legislation that will stop U.S. companies from moving profits overseas for lower tax rates, formally known as corporate tax inversions. He said lawmakers must be "accountable for the current gridlock in Congress that prevents important legislation from being passed." "In the last few years...

Financier Carl Icahn says he is forming a $150 million Super PAC aimed at ending the dysfunction in Congress. In a letter posted on his web site, Icahn said he'll take particular aim at corporate inversions, which are merger deals with a foreign company to switch the taxable domicile. Icahn says international tax reform would prevent further inversions, and he proposed a repatriation tax on the order of 5% to 10% that would also fund a highway infrastructure bill.

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn told Bloomberg News that he's endorsing Donald Trump because he's the sort of leader the US needs at this time. "I disagree on certain points I don’t want to get into, I’m sure those can be worked out, but the basic thing is, you need somebody that can get things going in Congress, and I think he can do it. You need somebody that understands business, and I think he understands it," Icahn told Bloomberg. Shortly after Trump launched his campaign, the candidate appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." On the show, the billionaire real-estate magnate said...

Pundits have largely deemed Thursday's debate a misstep for real estate mogul Donald Trump, but he may have won over billionaire investor Carl Icahn. Tyler Durden 09/03/2014 "The stock market is at an all-time, but economic activity is not at an all-time," explains billionaire investor Sam Zell to CNBC this morning, adding that, "every company that's missed has missed on the revenue side, which is a reflection that there's a demand issue; and when you got a demand issue it's hard to imagine the stock market at an all-time high." Zell said he is being very cautious adding to stocks and cutting some positions because "I don't remember any time in my career where there have been as many wildcards floating out there that...
