Billionaire Carl Icahn Steps Down as Adviser to President Trump
cnn ^ | August 18, 2017 | Jackie Wattles

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn said Friday he has stepped down as a special adviser to President Trump on regulatory reform.

He said in a letter to Trump that he was stepping down with the president's "blessing" and "because I did not want partisan bickering about my role to in any way cloud your administration."

Icahn has been criticized by Democrats who said his advisory role created a conflict of interest because he had not taken a formal government job and was still running his businesses.

In March, Icahn told CNNMoney that the those allegations were "absurd" and "completely ridiculous." He added, "I don't talk to Donald that often."

He doubled down on his denial in the letter to Trump, saying, "contrary to the insinuations of a handful of your Democratic critics, I never had access to nonpublic information or profited from my position, nor do I believe that my role presented conflicts of interest."

Exactly what prompted Icahn's decision to step away from his informal White House role was not immediately clear Friday.

Neither the White House nor Icahn Enterprises, his massive investment company, responded to requests for comment.

For Mr. “I hired the best people”, Trump has had tremendous turnover in his staff...

Where are the “Trump is playing 4d chess you wouldn’t understand” posts? This is not what winning looks like.

At least Trump isn’t hiding under his desk like Cruz and Lee have since Charlottesville. Maybe that’s why he is POTUS and they are not.

A big business representative like Icahn was not a good pick for regulatory reform. Needed: A free market economist with extensive regulatory knowledge.

This fall is going to be interesting when Congress returns.

I f’ing hate the GOP. They’ve done NOTHING during this media induced circus / goat rodeo. I expected attention whores like Mrs. John McCain-Graham, Sen. Collins , Sen Murkowski, and Mr. John McCain to raise some hell, but I didn’t expect the whole frigging party to turn their back on him.

I don’t have Trump blinders on ... there is NOTHING he did wrong handling the events of last Saturday. The GOP is either complicit with his downfall or afraid of the media ... neither is excusable.

I try to remain a realist ... I didn’t see a single thing the man said that warranted this kind of national reaction ... I despise the Nazis, White Supremacists, and Communists with all of my heart ... I didn’t see him support any of that trash. He let the media put words in his mouth. Help from the GOP could have fixed this problem ... they could point out what kind of idiocy exists on the left ... but no ... they remained silent.

I can only hope this is some kind of strategy to make it look like the WH is in total disarray ... I doubt that, but I’m going to hang what little hope I have on the idea :-).

Trump has got to come out swinging this fall or else it’s all over ... even if the GOP manages to pick up seats in the House and Senate, it won’t be worth anything outside of watching liberal heads explode on election night for laughs.

Trump should have been smart like Cruz, issued a simple, forceful condemnation, like Trump did Monday, and then STFU. Then he would still have a manufacturing council, he'd be celebrating backing Korea down, the headlines would be ISIS massacre in Europe, which would help give him some immigration momentum. Instead he squandered it all because he can't control his ego, or his mouth.

Trump is POTUS to build a wall, repeal Obamacare, cut taxes, renegotiate NAFTA, etc., and this crap is getting in the way. He might have good intentions, but he is failing to execute.

Carl was always a reluctant recruit. Even Trump said that during his campaign. That’s OK.

It is obvious anyone near Trump is being tagged now. Seems like every hour more desertions. I just wonder when/if the bleeding going to stop. It is the worthless and ungrateful GOP who l blame had they backed him none of this BS would be happening. They ALL know damn well what Trump was saying on Monday and he was right. I hate these bastards if we had any doubts about them we don’t anymore.
