“Are you tired of living in a dictatorship yet?” Republican state Rep. Nino Vitale wrote in a post on Facebook Tuesday after Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, announced the mask mandate. “This is what happens when people go crazy and get tested. STOP GETTING TESTED! It is giving the government an excuse to claim something is happening that is not happening at the magnitude they say it is happening.” Vitale called into question why the new order wouldn’t go into effect until Wednesday evening, saying “if this is such an urgent matter, why wait almost 30 hours? They make...

OLIVER TOWNSHIP, MI — A wind turbine located in Huron County fell over during a winter storm that brought wind and heavy snow to much of the state, but the cause of the collapse is unclear. The Exelon Corp. turbine is located near Gagetown and Richardson roads in Oliver Township, according to Huron County Central Dispatch. Oliver Township Planning Commission Chairman Brion Dickens lives about a third of a mile from the damaged turbine. "I'm not going to speculate. It was just a mechanical failure," he said Thursday, Feb. 25. "We don't know if it was weather related." Dickens said...

HARBOR BEACH ‒ Most elementary and middle schools fairly buzz with noise just before the school day starts, as a stampede of students put away coats, take seats and share boasts over video game exploits or exchange giggles about young romance. But one of the first things you notice at the Eccles School along rural stretch of Michigan’s Thumb is the quiet shuffle as students move from door to desk to computer station, creating a low-level hum until the Pledge of Allegiance. After which, there’s an exchange of news about soccer, a puppy and one student’s gig as bat boy...

HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) - A 911 call for assistance following a disagreement in Huron County actually resulted in six illegal aliens being taken into custody. The Huron County Sheriff says 911 central dispatch received a call just before 10 a.m. Wednesday requesting an ambulance on M-142 near Moore road in Oliver Township. When a sheriff's deputy arrived to assist the ambulance, the deputy found that there was no need for an ambulance. Instead, he said he found six Mexican men near the roadway who had been working for an out-of-state construction company at a nearby grain elevator construction project....
