NEW BEDFORD, Mass.— A man charged with murder after shooting and killing a suspected burglar last year was released after prosecutors did not request bail. Charles Chieppa, 57, pleaded innocent to second degree murder Friday in New Bedford Superior Court. Family members of the slain man, Frank Pereira Jr., 24, said Chieppa should not have been allowed to go free.
