The run up to Computex has been insane. Kabini, Haswell and Iris hit us back to back to back, not to mention all of the travel before receiving those products to get briefed on everything. Needless to say, we're in major catchup mode. There's a lot more that I wanted to do with Haswell desktop that got cut out due to Iris, and much more I wanted to do with Iris that I had to scrap in order to fly out to Computex. I will be picking up where I left off later this month, but with WWDC, Samsung and...

We’ve known for a while that Intel’s Haswell processor would continue to drive GPU performance in a significant way. With Haswell, Intel will offer a higher end graphics configuration with more execution resources than before (GT3) as well as an even higher end offering that pairs this GPU with 128MB of embedded DRAM on the CPU package (GT3e). Intel’s performance target for the highest end configuration (GT3e) is designed to go up against NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 650M, a performance target it will hit and miss depending on the benchmark.  Regardless of whether or not it wins every benchmark against...
  • Intel: Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware ( Buyer Alert)

The issue with USB 3.0 controllers integrated into Intel's upcoming "Lynx Point" 8-series core logic can be addressed only with new hardware (modifying the silicon), according to a new Hardware.info report. Intel decided against delaying launch of the 4th generation Core "Haswell" family to address the issue, and instead opted to address it in a future revision of the chipset. A design flaw causes devices connected to Lynx Point's integrated USB 3.0 controller to be disconnected when the system wakes up from S3 (suspend-to-RAM), forcing users to reconnect them. This could mean you'd have to mount your USB 3.0 hard-drives/flash-drives...
  • USB 3.0 problems for Intel's Haswell ( Laptop buyers alert )

    Hardware.info (UK) ^ | Friday 1 March 2013 11:06 | Frank Everaardt,
Intel intends to introduce a new 'tock' (denoting a new CPU architecture) around the middle of this year. However, the company is struggling with the USB 3.0 implementation in its upcoming Haswell products, as this fourth generation Intel Core processors is widely known. This is what Hardware.Info learnt from a reliable source and saw confirmed in an internal document from one of the processor manufacturing giant's partners. In the document, Intel purportedly informs manufacturers that a system with Haswell inside, when waking from S3 sleep mode, will experience issues with devices connected through USB 3.0. For example this would...
  • Intel Haswell - Big Hope for Intel, Says Analyst.

Intel Haswell Set to Benefit Significantly from 22nm Tri-Gate It is indisputable that Intel Corp.'s latest microprocessors are very competitive in terms of performance, power consumption and other qualities. But no matter how good code-named Ivy Bridge chips are, the next-generation Haswell have to be better. Analysts believe that Intel pins a lot of hopes on Haswell as the chips will be in many ways revolutionary. "Haswell will be the first processor to be designed from the ground up to fully optimize the power savings and performance benefits from the move to 3D or tri-gate transistors on the 22nm process...
  • Multiple Rivals Poise To Attack Intel As Chip Giant Kicks Off IDF

Intel's Developer Forum (IDF) starts on Tuesday, and the chip manufacturer is expected to discuss its Ivy Bridge refresh, Haswell, talk about its upcoming 32nm tablet platform, Clover Trail, and possibly share a few details on its 22nm Atom SOC's. Performance per watt is going to be a major focus at IDF this year; Haswell is rumored to be capable of idling below 10W. Intel always uses IDF as a demonstration platform and roadmap update, but it's particularly important this year, when competing foundries have struggled with 28nm and Intel itself just cut its Q3 guidance.

(Phys.org)—Can Intel possibly reduce the energy consumption of its processors by 41 percent? Intel is working on it and the result will be Haswell, its next generation of processors, and the key topic of discussions at next week's Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco. Intel's strategic roadmap is a power-reduction roadmap, where Intel hopes to make a difference in the brand behind computers that are thinner, lighter and stay on longer without needing a recharge. The next-generation processor chips will be officially unveiled at the IDF and professionals will judge for themselves whether this means a new day in Intel's...

Sept. 13, 1876 – Dr. James M. Haswell died after forty-one years of missionary service in Burma with his dear wife Jane Mason, who he had married on August 23, 1835, and sailed for their chosen field one month later. He was more fruit from the Hamilton Theological Institute in Bennington, Vermont. Dr.Haswell mastered the Burmese language and then turned to the Pegulan dialect to reach the 80,000 of that tribe. He only took two furloughs, one in 1849 and another in 1867, and those were used to spur interest in missions. He was most diligent that his son James...
