Japanese police are hunting a poetry-writing killer after the bodies of five people were found in a tiny mountain village. The five victims represent a third of the population of the hamlet in western Yamaguchi prefecture, where police found three corpses on Sunday after two houses were burned to the ground. Investigators on Monday discovered the bodies of two more people, who reports said appeared to have been battered to death. All five of the dead were in their 70s or 80s. The chief suspect is a 63-year-old villager at whose home police found a "haiku" poem stuck to the...

Early in TLS's history I used to write haiku (I don't profess to be an expert at it) as a sort of fun challenge on how to comment on political stuff.I dusted off a few old ones, and came up with some new ones for this post.

Because our readers have been SO great lately, keeping up with us and showering us with love and lots of comments, I’m thinking we need to show our appreciation. Without you we couldn’t maintain this blog (well, we probably still would, but it would be much less fun and dynamic), and we’re so grateful for your continued support. Hell, we even get our ideas from you! So, the reader who submits the best abortion haiku will have it featured here as an Abortioneers post! ~ Anti-Anti inviting readers to submit abortion haikus for posting, Abortioneers, December 14

While there's no animosity between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his son, the younger Reid's use of his first name on his campaign's website and television ads is telling, a veteran political observer in Nevada said. Obviously he's trying to downplay his last name," said Jon Ralston, a columnist for the Las Vegas Sun and publisher of the Ralston Report. "In so obviously downplaying it, he's called even more attention to it."-from this story on CNN What is in a name? Rory! Rory! Rory....Reid? Everybody knows I'm the smartest man ever This is my haiku to say so, which is great because haiku's are short and to the point and I'm tired this false reputation I have that I'm some kind of motormouth gaffe factory. So I'm glad I finally get to say my piece in a way that is creative and artistic and really drives home the point that I'm not dum and werdy like my critics paint me. I am thoughtful, I do choose my words good carefully and this haiku says it perfectly... The end The Looking Spoon is a...

Well, it has been an interesting year here on the DUmmie FUnnies: the primaries, Operation Chaos, the general campaign and election, BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome), PMS (Palin Madness Syndrome), and the brief micro-honeymoon Obambi enjoyed with the Looney Left (if you blinked, you missed it). All of it chronicled and ribbed for your pleasure here on the DUFUs! The DUmmies, too, are in a reflective mood, as they take stock of the year now ending. Some of them have even expressed their thoughts in poetical form, using the Japanese haiku (5-7-5) as their model. Apparently, there is a blog...

My Dragonfly And Me If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly! By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me... And we would wing past our lovers silent in the...
