MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WKRG/AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed House Bill 272, known as the Constitutional carry bill or permitless carry bill, into law. The bill will go into effect on Jan. 1. “Unlike states who are doing everything in their power to make it harder for law abiding citizens, Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights,” said Ivey in a news release on Thursday. “I have always stood up for the rights of law abiding gunowners, and I am proud to do that again today.”

My daughter has a nice little house in a safe neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. Until recently she never really had to worry about crime or her personal safety. But now suburban places like hers in Northern California and Southern California are being hit by a crime wave that has never hit them before. As you’ve seen on national TV, “smash-and-grab” gangs are hitting shopping malls like the one near her – the same one I often take my granddaughters to. And now there are even young thugs who’ll follow you home from the mall and break into your...

MADISON - A state Senate committee on Tuesday approved a bill that would allow people to carry concealed guns without getting training or state permits and in some cases bring them onto school grounds. The Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee signed off on the bill 3-2, with all Republicans for it and all Democrats against it. The wide-ranging legislation would also allow people to carry Tasers without training or permits and would allow felons to carry muzzle loaders. Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine), the chairman of the committee, said Senate Bill 169 would make the public safer and ensure Wisconsin's...

NDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gun rights advocates view the upcoming legislative session as their best bet to get rid of an Indiana law that requires a license to carry handguns.

The controversial legislation didn’t advance during the 2016 session, but supporters believe this time could be different after sweeping Republican wins on Election Day and the appointment of Republican state Rep. Ben Smaltz to the House Public Policy Committee, which acts as a gatekeeper on such bills.

Map made with mapchart.net In the 1993 Brady bill, exemptions for the background checks were provided for people who had undergone the background check for state gun permits. Not all states meet the federal requirements. For example, the background check for the permit system must go through the National Instant Check System (NICS) and it must have been done within the last five years. That is why most state permits are renewed every five years. From gunlaws.com: The statute provides the following exceptions to the national instant background check system: 1. The transferee presents to the licensee a permit...

The lieutenant governor of Tennessee is encouraging his “fellow Christians” to go out and get handgun permits in the wake of the Oregon college shooting. Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey posted a message to Facebook saying how disturbed he was by reports that the gunman asked people if they were Christian and then, if they answered affirmatively, shot them in the head. Ramsey said of the spike in mass shootings, “Whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West.” He then extended this bit of advice...

NEWTOWN, Conn.—The number of people seeking permits to buy guns has surged in this town following the December massacre of schoolchildren by a local man, even as the parents of some victims had urged stricter weapons laws nationwide. Through July 24, more than 200 people in Newtown have received new local pistol permits, according to a review of local records, surpassing the 171 new permits issued for all of last year. Such permits are prerequisites for Connecticut permits that allow people to purchase and carry pistols as well as rifles or shotguns.

Oahu firearms owners are increasingly frustrated with long lines at the registration desk at the main Honolulu Police Department (HPD) station. Hawaii's firearms registration laws are among the strictest in the country, and mandate gun owners must register firearms within 72 hours of purchase. Firearms owners can spend more than nine hours in line over three visits to obtain a permit for a firearm and register it, according to Dr. Max Cooper, a legislative liaison for the Hawaii Rifle Association, with rules differing for handguns and long guns. Currently, to obtain a permit to acquire or to register a firearm, HPD requires the applicant...

Evidence is mounting that the map of pistol permit owners, published by New York-based Journal News, could be causing unintended consequences as law abiding citizens are being put in danger, according to a NewsBusters report. At least two media reports have surfaced with specific references to people who are most vulnerable as a result of the map. Fox News reports that reformed criminals have said the map can help thieves in two ways. “Crooks looking to avoid getting shot now know which targets are soft and those who need weapons know where they can steal them,” the report says. Also...

The four Italian security guards kidnapped in Iraq had their personal protection weapons confiscated by American soldiers just hours before they were seized by suspected rebels, colleagues have revealed. According to Paolo Simeoni, the former leader of their security team, soldiers manning a checkpoint in one of Baghdad's most dangerous districts confiscated their three high-powered assault rifles and two pistols. Breaking his silence about the incident, Mr Simeoni said the Americans claimed that the Italians had flouted gun permit rules. The soldiers issued a receipt so that the arms could be collected at a later date. The men, who had...

The two locations accepting applicants for gun permits are the Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Middletown and the state police barracks in Bridgeport. The towns losing their application offices include Tolland, Litchfield and Montville. The state currently requires people who want a gun license to first obtain a temporary permit from their local police department. Then applicants...
