Hey Cotter, you don’t want people to have a license (ID) to vote, so what’s your problem?

Checking the guy’s ID, and asking for info about him is what they have to anyways. Is there any special info on the carry permit that isn’t in the database?

"Democrat St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter said if people were not required to have a license to carry a handgun then police would lose a way to quickly obtain information about a person discovered with a concealed weapon during an encounter."
Nice try Ken but unless a person is breaking the law, the simple fact that a person has a concealed weapon in their possession is not a reason to "quickly obtain information" about them. A law abiding person, carrying concealed, is not likely to resist your attempts to discern what has happened in some situation.

It has been introduced into the Tennessee General Assembly several times in the past few years and despite having a super majority in both houses and the governors office, the RINOs in charge have killed it in committee.

Indiana is already a “shall issue” state where concealed carry permits are good for life. Even should this law pass, it would be a good idea to obtain the carry license to insure reciprocity in other states.

Many once thriving communities in Indiana have become Detroit like.

The times are changing.

WV did that this year, one can carry concealed without a permit, there is no reciprocity with other states though. So to do that one still must go the the traditional carry process.

Unfort., our ‘betters’, though ivy skooled, have no idea of the meaning ‘infringed’ coupled with the phrase ‘shall NOT’...

One better Indiana. Couple the laws vs. 2nd A. to voting, abortion and welfare. Let’s see the courts and Libs (but I repeat myself) twist that logic.

“Democrat St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter said if people were not required to have a license to carry a handgun then police would lose a way to quickly obtain information about a person discovered with a concealed weapon during an encounter.”

This is one of the problems with CCW permits. The cops know you are a permittee, and in many cases, it identifies you as a “problem” or a “target” by them. All this BS about protecting the LEOs is a ruse. Turn about is fair play. When all parties don’t know who is and who isn’t everyone tends to be more “courteous.”

Usually, these kinds of fears aren’t statistically supportable, as you’ve alluded to. And few people bent on evildoing are going to bother getting one of these permits anyhow.

Does the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights require a ‘permit’ to exercise free speech?

Citizens do not ‘require’ permits to make use of the rights guranteed in the Bill of Rights.

CCW holders in Texas are uniformly regarded as friendlies by the police.

Cause we are.

“CCW holders in Texas are uniformly regarded as friendlies by the police.”

Score one for the Texas LEOs. Here in CA I wouldn’t want to take the chance. Most cops here I’ve come into contact with regard all citizens as “potential lawbreakers.”
I don’t regard them as “friends.” Unfortunately, the current situation LEO’s find themselves in today, makes them behave the way that they do.
