The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security held a hearing Thursday on finding a solution to gun violence, and the difference of opinion between Democrats and Republicans was put on full display. Passions ran high given the sensitivity of the issues involved, as liberal lawmakers focused on weapons and conservatives on the people who use them. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-La., a former judge who handled felony cases, was in the latter group and focused on the need to instill morality in people, citing Judeo-Christian principles. He went so far as to say it is the bedrock of...

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) presented Dr. Simone Gold a flag that was once flown over the U.S. Capitol on Friday, following her 45 days in jail for being involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol breach and stepping inside restricted premises. “Dr. Simone Gold is a patriot and an American hero,” Gohmert said in a Sept. 9 statement. The in-person grant upon Gold’s release from the Miami Federal Detention Center was to honor the Los Angeles-based emergency medicine specialist’s “invaluable work and contributions to public health, medical freedom, and our God-given constitutional rights,” according to the Republican lawmaker. Gold, the founder...

House Republicans are demanding the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) release body and surveillance camera footage as well any other footage in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, according to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. Wisconsin Rep. Glenn Grothman, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert and South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman first requested the information from the DOJ in October 2021. Now, they are re-upping their inquiry, asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to release the information since their constituents have a “growing concern” with the DOJ’s “apparent failure” to do so. “Many Americans question why their government,...

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) railed against the indictment of former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro while saying in an interview on Friday that “if you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you.” Gohmert, speaking to Newsmax in an interview on Friday, was asked to comment on the Friday indictment of Navarro by a federal grand jury after the former Trump official failed to comply with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. “It actually puts an exclamation point on the fact that we...

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert's asked during a hearing of a House committee whether the federal government could change the orbits of the moon or earth to deal with climate change - raising some eyebrows among experts. Gohmert, a Republican from Texas, was on a video call with associate deputy chief of the National Forest Service Jennifer Eberlien when he asked whether or not federal agencies such as the Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management could alter the earth and moon's orbit to deal with climate change crisis. 'I understand, from what's been testified to the Forest Service and the...

The Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted 216-208 last week to pass a bill that would grant statehood to Washington, D.C. During an interview on Newsmax, Texas GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert revealed the sneaky reason Democrats did this: unlimited power grab. Gohmert said Democrats' push for statehood for D.C. is based on an argument of "no taxation without representation."

Rep. Louie Gohmert told Breitbart News (R-TX) that many border patrol officers are either quitting or considering retirement because of President Joe Biden’s open borders policies. Along with many other House Republicans from Texas, Gohmert traveled to the border this week to witness the migrant crisis that unfolded at the American southern border less than 100 days into Biden’s administration. Gohmert said his most recent visit to the southern border struck a stark contrast compared to his visits under President Donald Trump. “It’s incredible how many more people were coming across than I’ve ever seen, and I’ve spent a lot...

Rep. Louie Gohmert will have $5,000 deducted from his pay because the House Ethics Committee has not agreed to the Texas Republican's appeal of a fine for failing to engage in a security screening prior to entering the House floor. In his appeal of the fine imposed by the House sergeant-at arms Gohmert said that he had gone through the security screening process prior to entering the chamber, but then departed and reentered the chamber after going to use the bathroom beside the Speaker's Lobby. "During the weeks that the metal detectors have been in place, I have entered the...

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) flipped the script on Democrats on the House floor today. After a summer of Democrat-sanctioned rioting and $2 billion in damages, Democrats and their fake news media are trying desperately to push to the American public that Republicans and Trump supporters are the violent ones. This is as outrageous as it is dishonest. On Wednesday Rep. Gohmert read off Pelosi’s previous statement on the House floor. It did not occur to Democrats that Louie was quoting Speaker Pelosi. They lost it! Louie Gohmert: I just don’t know why there aren’t more uprisings all over the country...

**SNIP** Gohmert has no intention of voting to impeach the president and used his time at the microphone to throw Pelosi's own words back at her. The Texas Republican pointed to a comment Pelosi made in 2018, when she wondered why there weren't "uprisings all over the county" over migrant children being separated from their parents and an August MSNBC interview when she called allies of the president "enemies of the state." "From our side, we didn't take those to be impeachable because we didn't believe she surely meant that but by the Democrats taking this action, you're telling me,...

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) reacted to the dismissal of his lawsuit against Vice President Pence on Saturday, telling Newsmax that a court's refusal to force Pence to overturn the presidential election results essentially served as a call to Americans to incite violence in the streets. "The bottom line is the court is saying, 'We're not going to touch this. You have no remedy,'" Gohmert told Newsmax. "Essentially, the ruling would be 'You have to go to the streets and be as violent as antifa, BLM,'" he added. Gohmert was referring to protests that at times became violent over the summer...

A federal judge on Friday dismissed a bid by Rep. Louie Gohmert (Texas) and other Republicans that sought to endow Vice President Pence with the legal authority to effectively overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral win. In his ruling, Texas-based U.S. District Judge Jeremy Kernodle, a Trump appointee, said the GOP plaintiffs lacked standing. The judge found that Gohmert suffered no legally recognizable injury. The other plaintiffs, a group of Arizona Republicans who self-identify as an alternate “slate” of pro-Trump electors, could not link their supposed injury to Pence, he reasoned.

Vice President Mike Pence's lawyers asked a federal judge Thursday to reject a request from Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas that attempts to force Pence to ignore electoral votes of several key states when Congress meets to certify the 2020 presidential election next week.Pence argues that the legal issues raised by Gohmert, along with a slate of Arizona Republicans, should be addressed to the House and Senate (if they should be raised at all).Gohmert's lawsuit is a last-gasp attempt by Republicans to persuade Pence to interfere in the declaration of President-elect Joe Biden's victory and flip the election for President...

Vice President Mike Pence asked a federal judge in Texas to deny a Republican congressman’s emergency request for a court order that would essentially allow the vice president to reverse Donald Trump’s election loss during a joint session of Congress Wednesday.

Lawyers representing Louie Gohmert and a group of Arizona Republicans disclosed in a court filing Tuesday that Vice President Pence rejected their request to join their attempt to block electors. Gohmert and 11 GOP “alternate” electors from Arizona filed suit against Pence on Monday in an attempt to argue that the vice president has sole authority to determine which presidential electors Congress will count when it certifies the results of the election. The suit essentially asks the court to grant Pence the authority on Jan. 6 to overrule the results in swing states such as Arizona and have Congress count...
