The Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted 216-208 last week to pass a bill that would grant statehood to Washington, D.C.
During an interview on Newsmax, Texas GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert revealed the sneaky reason Democrats did this: unlimited power grab.
Gohmert said Democrats' push for statehood for D.C. is based on an argument of "no taxation without representation."
Just tack DC onto to Maryland or Virginia or a little of each. No 2 new senators for Marxist DC.
The want two more Democrat senators and an additional, voting, Democrat congressman. Nothing mysterious in that.
They need to downsize Washington DC to be the White house, The mall, and some attached federal buildings. The ONLY resident should be the President and family.
Then cede the rest to whatever states the areas are attached to.
Done.
Can someone please point out that the Constitution says it can’t be a state?
I know, the Constitution says Obama could not be President and Kamalalala can’t be VP.
Talk to the people of Eastern Washington and Oregon, ask them if they want to be their own state, unchained to the radicals in Salem, Portland, Seattle and Olympia.
Two Republican Senators right there. Nice even balance.
Both states are pretty darn Red except for a few cities.
I love this kind of clever bluff-calling.
I do wish some republican was taking about this possibility.
It never seems to cross their minds to use Dem strategy on Dems.
The majority of GOP seem content to sit and wait for the Dems to do or say something that the GOP can react to.
There are some ecceptions, thank goodness.
I loathe the dhimmicrats and hate most republicans. My country was stolen by one while the other sits there counting their money.
Well, duh. The State of Texas has it in their agreement to become a state that, should they feel the need for it, they can split into five states. Just threaten that and the whole DC statehood bill will disappear. Puerto Rico too.
That’s my thought. Every resident of DC is a citizen of Maryland for tax purposes. The District can still have a municipal tax.
Maybe opposition to DC statehood from Republicans is shortsighted. If the population of a contiguous territory no smaller than DC within the US feels it’s not being represented in Congress, let’s split up the territory and let the senator situation work itself out. Without MonCo, Baltimore City, and PG country, Maryland is a red state. Without the government employees in NoVA, Virginia is a solid red state. New York City could easily be it’s own state, same with Chicago, Portland, Seattle, LA, Austin, Atlanta, etc....
Once all that shakes out and the senate has 400 some members, then let’s see who gets elected, what issues get pushed in Congress, and what America can be. I’d bet the territories with most of the fresh water, farmland, and electricity will get listened to more than the territories that have most of the liberal arts colleges and coffeeshops.
DC statehood is just asinine and not worth discussing. Outside of the People’s property/Heritage and Fedgov swamp, the DC ghetto sh*t hole can go to MD. America could be 400 states in theory. 50 is enough....but Greenland talk was intriguing lol.
EVERYBODY knows what the reason is!
They need to downsize Washington DC to be the White house, The mall, and some attached federal buildings. The ONLY resident should be the President and family.
Then cede the rest to whatever states the areas are attached to.
Done.
It would be like England’s ‘Rotten Boroughs’
Rd later.
