The bones of Elizabeth I, Good Queen Bess, lie mingled with those of her sister, Bloody Mary, in a single tomb at Westminster Abbey. But are they really royal remains — or evidence of the greatest conspiracy in English history? If that is not the skeleton of Elizabeth Tudor, the past four centuries of British history have been founded on a lie. And according to a controversial new book, the lie began on an autumn morning 470 years ago, when panic swept through a little group of courtiers in a manor house in the Cotswold village of Bisley in Gloucestershire.The...

All gray squirrels killed at Prince Charles's estate die humanely, a spokesman for the heir to the British throne said Friday. The prince angered animal rights activists this week when he said gray squirrels, an import from North America, should be regularly culled in Britain to protect forest areas and the native red squirrel. The news that he practices what he preaches at Highgrove in Gloucestershire, his country home and organic farm, added gasoline to the flames, the UK Express reported. Charles' office refused to release details on how the squirrels meet their fate. "We don't poison them or anything...

LONDON (Reuters) - This year, ankles will go unbroken and heads will go ungashed, because the perilous cheeses of Gloucestershire will, alas, go unrolled. For centuries, residents of Gloucestershire have practised the timeless and surprisingly dangerous springtime ritual of chasing large, speeding, round cheeses down steep hills. The winner gets to keep the cheese. But this year's event, scheduled for Monday, was cancelled because emergency crews who volunteered to help clear the tumbling casualties from the hillside were summoned to Algeria to rescue earthquake (news - web sites) victims, organisers said on Saturday. "We are very disappointed its not going...
