From the GEORGIA BASED southern heritage political action comittee. 79% of Georgians want a FAIR Vote - are our elected officials listening? For quite some time the politically correct, the Atlanta Chamber and some elected officials have been lying to the People of Georgia. With the support of the major newspapers (also members of the Chamber) they have been telling you that no one cared. They have been telling you that the citizens of Georgia were happy that the Atlanta Chamber dictated what you wanted for a State Flag. But according to the recent Mason Dixon poll, this just not...

Support Georgia's right to have a REAL vote on their state flag... The only vote issued did not include the flag that sparked all the controversay in the first place!. In addition, only 6% of registered voters showed up at the polls, BECAUSE the real Georgia state flag wasn't included in the referendum!! There is currently a bill that has just been filed with the Georgia State House to allow the real flag to be included in a statewide vote, as well as the current flag. No matter your feeling on the flag personally... There SHOULD BE a vote on...
  • Why is the old Georgia flag still on FR?

A few years ago I was a pretty regular poster to FR (under an old name, I changed names when I forgot my password.) I complained a few times that the flag used for Georgia profiles was the old GA flag that had the Confederate Battle flag in it. I was told that they had just not gotten around to changing it, or that they couldn't find a waving flag of the new version. Fine. I know changes take time. But now we sit here 3 years (and two flag changes) since the GA flag was changed, and FR still...

As their ancestors did in 1861, the Sons of Confederate Veterans will be making plans for war this weekend. But this battle won't be fought with sabers and rifles. It will be fought with computers, mailing lists and ballot boxes. Beginning today, about 300 members of the state's SCV chapters, known as "camps," will gather in the southeast Georgia college town of Statesboro for the organization's 107th annual convention. While the convention is supposed to be about fellowship and organizational matters, this year's will be rife with talk about Georgia's latest state flag change -- another setback for the heritage...
  • Race, the flag and the U.S. Senate: Democrats might be going to their bench (Georgia)

You wouldn't think the fight over the state flag referendum has played a role in the 2004 U.S. Senate race, but it has. Privately, leading Democrats will tell you the flap has soured the climate for prominent African-American politicians who otherwise might consider running for a top-tier statewide position -- and the chance to make a bit of history. Instead, the flag referendum -- along with the overwhelming figure of Zell Miller -- has kept strategists searching for a white, conservative Democrat who is not Mark Taylor or Cathy Cox. Last week's news that Mary Squires might seek the nomination...

Negotiators approve flag compromise By JIM GALLOWAY Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer Proposed new Georgia state flag. Georgia's state flag would be changed immediately, with a public vote to follow, under a plan endorsed by a key House committee today. The new flag would resemble the first national flag of the Confederacy -- three red and white bars, with a blue field in the top left corner. The state seal would be in the blue corner, and the words "In God We Trust" would be written to the right. The bill adopted by the House Rules Committee calls for the Legislature...
