Environmental activists who have declared war on “gas guzzler” cars have vandalised an electric-powered vehicle. The controversial group, who call themselves the Tyre Extinguishers, targeted a Tesla car in Clifton, Bristol. The owner was out walking his dog while the group deflated his tyres and left their signature leaflet on the windscreen, which states: “Your gas guzzler kills.” It does not mark the first time the activists have seemingly erroneously deflated the tyres of electric vehicles, with a similar incident on a Tesla in the London area of Notting Hill last year.

Bentley Motors plans to unveil its $200,000 Continental Flying Spur Speed sedan in Boston today - apparently the first time any automaker has chosen the Hub for a worldwide product launch. Bentley has previously rolled out vehicles in Paris, Geneva and other posh locales. But the legendary British automaker chose Boston this time because Bentley plans to move its North American headquarters here from Detroit this fall. “We really wanted to use our new location as a showcase for the brand,” company spokesman David Reuter said. Bentley expects some 150 auto journalists from around the world to hit the Hub...

.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein delivered a lengthy, impassioned speech Wednesday about the need for this country, other nations and every individual to step up the fight against global warming. Then she drove off in a gas-guzzling Lincoln Town Car. Before she left the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, the California Democrat also showed flashes of impatience with earnest-faced students who asked about her initial support for the Iraq war and refusal to participate in a debate before next month's election. If Feinstein seemed unconcerned about sending unflattering messages late in the campaign, it might be a reflection of...

JASPER, Texas (AP) - For some drivers, even a Hummer may not be enough. At a curb weight of more than 3.5 tons, the Humvee-inspired Hummer H1 is no skinny guy who gets sand kicked in his face. But the Bad Boy Heavy Muscle Truck, a dressed-up military vehicle more than twice as heavy, is being billed as bigger, badder and more bodacious. "It's the rugged Bubba," said Daniel Ayres, president and CEO of Homeland Defense Vehicles LLC and its division Bad Boy Trucks. The East Texas company aims to market the machine to civilians with disposable cash and a...

SUVs are in a peculiar position in the American psyche these days. They are at once very popular and also despised; popular for their room, power and safety, despised for their gas-guzzling, more-power-than-is-necessary appetite. Now a familiar political and social commentator has decided the best way to attack SUV drivers is to accuse them of aiding terrorism. It that fair? Click on the link and watch the video report.

'What would Jesus drive?' gas-guzzling Americans are asked Oliver Burkeman in New York Thursday November 14, 2002 The Guardian The midwestern United States, equally devout in its worship of God as in its worship of gas-guzzling four-wheel-drive vehicles, is about to be asked to choose between the two. "What Would Jesus Drive?" is the slogan dominating a television advertising campaign about to blanket cities in Iowa, Indiana and Missouri, along with the southern state of North Carolina. The question presumably did not arise in first-century Galilee, but the Christian group behind the ads believes the answer would not include...

"What would Jesus drive?" asks the new religious campaign against SUVs. Naturally, everyone has been eager to supply a punch line. My initial thought was a donkey, which has considerably less passenger and cargo space than an SUV, along with emissions problems of its own. Then a colleague pointed out that Jesus was a carpenter, so he'd probably want a pickup truck, which falls into the same mileage and emissions category as an SUV, to haul his lumber. On CNN's "Talk Back Live," a guest suggested that Jesus might very well drive a big SUV, especially if he was...
