New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed three gun control bills on Thursday. The bills ban certain gun mods, make gun shops post clearer warnings, and change how gun sales are tracked. “New Yorkers are sick of weapons manufacturers ignoring their role in the gun violence epidemic,” said Democratic Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, who sponsored the bill in the Assembly. “Glock has known that its pistols can be easily and cheaply converted into illegal fully-automatic machine guns. It’s time to put people over profit.” S745/A439 changes how credit cards categorize gun vendors, requiring the companies to use new merchant codes for...

The Federal Reserve’s preferred gauge of inflation rose slightly in June, according to new data from the Commerce Department released Friday. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index rose 0.1 percent last month and 2.5 percent over the past year. Core PCE, which excludes more volatile food and energy prices, was up 0.2 percent in June and 2.6 percent year-over-year. The latest inflation reading comes as the Fed is set to meet next week. The central bank has held interest rates steady at a range of 5.25 to 5.5 percent for the past year, as inflation has remained stubbornly above...

On February 8th members of the American Federation of Government Employees picketed outside the Capitol demanding more taxpayer dollars for their already bloated salary and benefits. We caught up with AFGE President John Gage who told us those who say we should control federal spending are "mentally retarded". Tell Mr. Gage you believe cutting spending is actually very sane at http://RemoveGage.com

Obama looks to be gearing up for the health care reform fight, leading many to believe that he will push for the legislation this summer. Having allotted $635 billion for health care over the next 10 years, shows he means business, even though it is more likely to cost around $1.2 trillion (Hey look! More deficit). Obama’s plan has eight principles: • Guaranteeing choice of health plans and physicians; • Making health coverage affordable; • Protecting families’ financial health; • Investing in prevention and wellness; • Providing portability of coverage; • Aiming for universality; • Improving patient safety and quality...

Does America need a terrorist financier to secure its “freedom”? Sami al-Arian thinks so. His National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom poses as a watchdog for the Constitution, but he has focused his lobbying efforts on repealing anti-terrorist legislation. While Sami al-Arian himself has been arrested for being a prime financier for Palestinian Islamic Jihad (and likely one of its three founders), his political movement continues to threaten homeland security. Al-Arian founded the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF) in 1997 as a reaction to the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1996. The coalition’s stated goal “is to help change the...

The birth-cry of America's armed forces by W. Thomas Smith Jr. April is a month chocked-full of American military anniversaries: The Continental Navy captured its first enemy warship in April 1776. Marines captured Tripoli, 1805. The Civil War began, 1861. Lee surrendered to Grant, 1865. The Spanish-American war began, 1898. The U.S. declared war on Germany, 1917. Doolittle raided Japan, 1942. American troops landed on Okinawa, 1945. The Bay of Pigs invasion was launched, 1961. The last American Marine left Saigon, 1975. The Air Force raided Libya, 1986. And Baghdad fell to U.S. forces, 2003. All are but a few...
