A data breach at the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office exposed private information belonging to 58,000 voters. An unauthorized user appears to have illegally accessed and copied files containing personal identification information — including Social Security and driver license numbers — primarily from files used to conduct voter registration list maintenance, Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer said in a released statement Wednesday. The voter registration list maintenance is mandated by the state. The process requires the elections office personnel to continually review its voter roll to identify necessary updates. The office’s voter registration system and the ballot tabulation...

Here we go again. Four years after the 2000 election fiasco, Palm Beach County's three-member canvassing board will meet Monday to determine the intent of about 300 absentee voters who incorrectly filled out their broken-arrow primary election ballots. The canvassing board also will look at about 180 absentee ballots where voters either failed to sign ballot envelopes or whose signature differed from the one on file with the Supervisor of Elections Office. In total, the questionable ballots make up about 2 percent of the 23,395 absentee ballots the elections office had received by Saturday, three days before Tuesday's primary election....

Critics Say Palm Beach County Absentee Ballot Even More Confusing Than One Used in 2000 Election The Associated Press WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Aug. 22, 2004 — Palm Beach County has introduced an absentee ballot that requires voters to indicate their choices by connecting broken arrows, sparking criticism that it is even more confusing than the infamous "butterfly ballot" used in the 2000 election. Theresa LePore, the elections supervisor who approved the 2000 butterfly ballot, opted for a ballot design for the Aug. 31 primary that asks voters to draw lines joining two ends of an arrow. Critics say the...

A group of blind voters sued Palm Beach elections supervisor Theresa LePore on Monday, claiming she didn't provide equipment that would have let them vote by secret ballot. The lawsuit asks that LePore make available audio equipment that will let voters who are blind and visually impaired vote without assistance. It also calls for LePore to train poll workers on how to use the new technology. The federal court lawsuit seeks to be declared a class action but doesn't seek monetary damages. The plaintiffs said LePore had brought the machines to the Center for Independent Living Options for demonstrations before...
