Action Needed: Tell Senators to Protect Reproductive Health! Oppose Restrictions to Reproductive Health and Rights! Dear xxxxxx, The Senate Education and Health Committee will be voting soon on THREE anti-choice measures: HB 164 requires Virginia's Family Life Education programs to include biased information at the expense of comprehensive, medically-accurate sex education programs that have been proven effective. HB 189 - under the guise of protecting safety - imposes unnecessary and burdensome architectural regulations on abortion providers for the purpose of shutting them down. Again under the guise of safety, HB 1274 targets abortion providers with unnecessary reporting requirements. TAKE ACTION!...

The Diocese of Arlington has criticized newly approved sex-education materials in Fairfax County public schools, saying they ridicule abstinence and marriage. The Fairfax County School Board on May 12 voted 10-1 to approve for 10th-graders two pamphlets -- "Birth Control Facts" and "Abstinence 101." "We would reject both those resources," said Gerri Laird, a coordinator of Education and Training with the diocese's Office for Family Life. "How can you promote abstinence when you talk about sexuality without even talking about marriage?"

Should Hunt Resign over Letter?School Board member urged principals to invite speakers who believe that homosexuality leads to destructive lifestyle. Barbara Wrigley, the lesbian mother of two Lake Braddock Secondary School students, was appalled when she heard Fairfax County School Board member Stephen Hunt (at large) had sent a letter to principals urging them to expose students to speakers who believe homosexuality is immoral and destructive. "What really offended me was when Mr. Hunt said that we're not normal," Wrigley said. "As a parent, I face enough discrimination. I don't need my children to be taught at school that their...

A team of 20 soldiers works relentlessly behind the scenes to maintain a firm foundation of around-the- clock logistical support to the Jordanian Medical Field Hospital. The Jordanian hospital, located in the northern province of Balkh, provides medical care to countless Afghans, but it's the daily support of the U.S. soldiers that keeps this facility running. Twenty soldiers from several units and job specialties make up what's called a forward logistical element, or FLE to support the hospital. The FLE is responsible for a variety of support duties, – such as providing security for a nearby air field to ensuring...
