(Reuters) - Florida Governor Charlie Crist's strategy of taking the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans in his campaign as an independent for a Senate seat is failing. The slight edge Crist held over Republican "Tea Party" favorite Marco Rubio in August has evaporated and turned into a wide deficit as he courts what appears to be a fast- shrinking moderate vote. A Reuters/Ipsos poll on Wednesday showed Rubio far ahead in the three-way race to succeed Republican Senator George LeMieux, with support from 40 percent of likely voters. Crist had 26 percent while Democrat Kendrick Meek had 21 percent....

Raw Story has gotten a hold of a memo closeted Governor Crist plans to release this week. The document announces support for a variety of issues related to the LGBT community. The document provided to RawStory.com includes Crist's vocal support for gay couples, including hospital visitation, inheritance and adoption rights; opposition to the ban on gays serving in the military; support for anti-discrimination laws and appropriations for HIV and AIDS programs. "It's great to hear a sitting governor take such a strong stand on equality issues," Nadine Smith, Director of Equality Florida, told RawStory.com by telephone Sunday night. "This is...

Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., described the GOP primaries, and yesterday's rally in Washington led by conservative commentator Glenn Beck, as a sign that "There is a raging battle going on within the Republican Party for the heart and soul of the Republican Party." -snip- Miss. Gov. Haley Barbour, also appearing on the program, dismissed Wasserman Schultz's suggestion that Republican incumbents fear a Tea Party insurgency. As a past chairman of the Republican National Committee and current chairman of the Republican Governors Association, Barbour said, "We never took sides in primaries. We did not...

This race will be about one thing: Rick Scott paid the largest fine in U.S. history for "robbing seniors". Sink and the Dems and the media will not differentiate between Scott and his company. This race will not be about issues - it will be about Rick Scott and about how he is a so-called felon. Yes - I know he won the primary, but this ain't good.

Any discord among party members must end after the primaries. This is especially true in the all important gubernatorial race in Florida in this congressional redistricting year. Republicans across the board are spending time, energy and resources on defeating vulnerable Democrat incumbents, including Alcee Hastings (whose district boasts an abysmal voter turnout and who has all but lost the critical Haitian vote), Ron Klein and Alan Grayson. We need to keep in mind that a Democratic governor in a redistricting year could not only preclude Republicans from holding these seats in the future, but could in fact lead to the...

Obviously Rubio has this in the bag, with no real challengers, but we might as well have results threads for the important races.

Kendrick Meek has won a decisive victory over billionaire Jeff Greene to claim the Democrat nomination for U.S. Senate in Florida. With nearly 80% of precincts reporting at the time of this post, Meek had 56% of the vote to only 32% for Greene. He will now face GOP Nominee Marco Rubio, and former Republican turned-Independent Charlie Crist in the November Midterm Election. Meek has already sent out a victory email to supporters: CNN: “We did it! I am about to step on the stage at our rally here in Miami, but I wanted to send you a quick note...

Introduced by a Democratic state representative at a gathering of hundreds of senior citizens at a condo complex in heavily Democratic Broward County on Wednesday, Florida governor and U.S. Senate candidate Charlie Crist thanked God that he was no longer a Republican. "You know, I used to be a Republican," Crist told the adoring crowd after an introduction by Democratic state Rep. Ari Porth . When a women in the audience yelled out, "Thank God!" Crist immediately said, "Yeah, thank God. Right - used to be!" The statement came the same day Washington Examiner columnist Timothy P. Carney revealed that...

TAMPA - A new poll shows Marco Rubio slipping ahead of Gov. Charlie Crist in the U.S. Senate race for the first time. It also suggests that Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami is turning around his race against Palm Beach real estate investor Jeff Geene in the Democratic Senate primary, moving to a double-digit lead after trailing Greene by substantial margins for the last several weeks. The poll also indicates that Crist, a no-party candidate, is heavily dependent on support from Democrats, and if Democratic voters move toward a nominee of their own party, Crist's support will erode. Crist has...

It is becoming more clear to me everyday that Marco Rubio does not have what it takes to win broad support from grass roots conservatives.. He is completely ignoring 2 other candidates in the Republican Primary. One of whom I am publicly supporting. Dr. William Escoffery But this thread is not so much about Dr. Escoffery as it is about Marco Rubio himself... there are way too many "issues" with Marco Rubio, not the least of which is the fact that he is completely avoiding any contact/debate with the 2 other candidates in the GOP Primary, and we (as the...

PRO-LIFE I am 100% PRO-LIFE and completely ANTI-ABORTION. It is a travesty that approximately 52 Million unborn American Citizens have been murdered in our country under the "Roe v. Wade" doctrine propounded by Supreme Court "Justice" Harry Blackmun. I personally pray that this MONSTER will burn in Satan's ovens for eternity. I believe that the ONLY excuse for abortion is a situation where the mother's LIFE (ie., IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL SURVIVAL) is threatened by the fetus. (And that means no "Mental-Health" exceptions, either). Therefore I am against all funding for abortion services, all transportation across state lines for this abomination, all...
