Mozilla Corp. on Saturday released the third alpha version of Firefox 2.0, code-named "Bon Echo," with additions that include a built-in anti-phishing feature and suggestions for searches run in Google and Yahoo. The anti-phishing feature in Firefox is courtesy of Google, which released the code for a Firefox extension, or plug-in, to the Mozilla Foundation for use in the browser. As with the two earlier alphas, Mozilla stressed that the early look was intended for "Web application developers and our testing community" only. "Current users of Mozilla Firefox 1.x should not use Bon Echo Alpha 3," the company added in...

The Mozilla browser is attracting more users every day, but some experts feel it may have reached its peak The Firefox and Safari Web browsers are gradually becoming more popular, while Internet Explorer (IE) may be starting to lose some of its lead, according to experts. Web analysis firm OneStat.com on Monday released statistics showing that while IE continues to dominate Web browser use with 85.17 percent of total global usage in May, the browser has fallen in popularity by 0.65 percent since January. In contrast, Firefox use has increased by 0.56 percent since January, and now stands at 11.79...

This time next year, if you find yourself using and liking Internet Explorer 7, thank the volunteers at the Mozilla project. The release of Mozilla Firefox 1.0 roughly 18 months ago marked the beginning of a downhill slide for Internet Explorer in both market share and mindshare. After a series of solid and reliable updates, Firefox is, in nearly every category, a better browser than Internet Explorer 6. The rise of the open source browser was a wake-up call for Microsoft's developers. Having Firefox as a target inspired sweeping changes for Internet Explorer, whose basic interface and core features were...

While Microsoft has become a favorite target of critics who say the company has dramatically scaled back expectations for Windows Vista, Mozilla's Firefox Web browser is about to join that crowd.Mozilla has decided to strip out a major new feature from Firefox 2.0 in order to ensure that the update meets a Q3 2006 release target, a post in the browser's developer forum indicated earlier this week. "Places," a complete rewrite of the browser's bookmarking system, will no longer be included in the release. While Places had made it into the first public alpha release of Firefox 2.0, codenamed "Bon...

Internet users were given a peek yesterday at a revamped version of Microsoft Corporation's Internet Explorer, a response to criticism that the most popular tool for Web surfing and hacking made users vulnerable to the Internet's dangers and caused them to defect to alternative browsers.Earlier versions of Internet Explorer, which comes standard on most Windows computers, are still how most users access and view Web pages. But being the leader in the browser game -- with almost 85 percent market share -- means that it's also the most vulnerable to malicious programs such as viruses, worms and phishing scams. That,...

I have dial-up and just changed ISP and added web accelerator. Now graphics on FR are not displaying properly. Profile flags are not waving, PJ Comix's beaver is frozen and the over the top FReepathon banner is not showing the fireworks it normally shows. Was hoping you could advise or point me to someone who can. Thanks in advance. Regards, Lobo

Something nobody thought of: Sure, Mozilla deletes various sensitive information at the click of a button, but where you've been browsing is hidden elsewhere in a useful feature. Here's the bug: ------------------------------------- This privacy flaw has caused my fiancé and I to break-up after having dated for 5 years. Basically, we share one computer but under separate Windows XP user accounts. We both use Mozilla Firefox -- well, he used to use it more than I do but now we don't really use it. The privacy flaw is this: when he went to log-in under his dating sites (jdate.com, swinglifestyle.com,...

Last month, security researcher HD Moore decided to write a simple program that would mangle the code found in web pages and gauge the effect such data would have on the major browsers. The result: hundreds of crashes and the discovery of several dozen flaws. The technique - called packet, or data, fuzzing - is frequently used to find flaws in network applications. Moore and others are now turning the tool on browsers to startling results. In a few weeks, the researcher had found hundreds of ways to crash Internet Explorer and, to a lesser extent, other browsers. In another...

There has been a lot of news flying around and I have simply not had the time to write about it, the last couple of days have been very busy, expect a flurry of articles in the coming days. Now lets explore the wonder that is known as Firefox. Over the last few months I have noticed people complaining about Firefox and the memory ‘leaks’ and how much memory Firefox hordes for itself. I guess for some people the 40-60Mb of ram that Firefox is sitting on is expensive, but for me, Firefox doesn’t get close to touching my gig...
