I have dial-up and just changed ISP and added web accelerator.
Now graphics on FR are not displaying properly.
Profile flags are not waving, PJ Comix's beaver is frozen and the over the top FReepathon banner is not showing the fireworks it normally shows.
Was hoping you could advise or point me to someone who can.
Thanks in advance.

That's gotta hurt.
Knowing (knida) how those accelerators work (by storing web pages in semi-local servers), you could be experiencing a problem with the accelerator's storage--not storing the entire animated GIF for example.
Try disabling the accelerator and see if that helps at all.
You might want to see a doctor about that, PJ.
Graphics are the most data intensive part of a web page. Web accelerators work by intercepting the pages you surf to and reducing the resolution of the graphic images. If you click on the images, the full resolution should return.
Wow....problem's at home?
Seriously, I am going to enjoy this list so I can learn what exactly is going on sometimes with my pc.
What company provides the accelerator?
IIRC Those so-called "web accelerators" compress the data on the web-page before it's sent to you.
Images such as CompuServe GIFs are already about as tightly compressed as they can get. They were designed for the Net, so there isn't much wasted space in a GIF. (ZIP one using PKZIP or WINZIP. You don't gain much.)
IIRC JPGs are "compressed" by stripping data from the image.
My guess? Your "web accelerator" is stripping bytes from the images.
The result? Crappy looking images and websites.
My advice? Uninstall/remove this "web accelerator" software. (Call your ISP tech support if you don't know how.)
Good question for you lobo..
HM,
But is not an animated gif, while compressed, still pretty large. I dont use accelators so I dont know what they would do to an animated gif..
Yeah, the image quality suffers somewhat. The better accelerators let you balance image quality and speed. I forget the name of the service I used, but you could actually set the image quality to be quite good, even though it was still a compressed file. The tradeoff was acceptable, especially considering my best connect speed was 24k.
I'm guessing that this particular problem is with a setting somewhere that deals with how animated GIF's are presented. Probably, for extra speed, it downloads only one frame of the GIF instead of the whole thing.

"Try disabling the accelerator and see if that helps at all."
That apparently is it... I disabled it and your Missouri flag is waving again.
Thank you.
The real solution is, as soon as you can get it/afford it, get high-speed internet. Cable or DSL. You'll never go back. Dialup *shudder*.

That is the type I am using. I can speed it up but image quality suffers.
It really makes a difference to me in downloads.
In the most recent 27 days of use, what took 147.1 hours to download, was done in 46.7 hours.
Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
Thanks for giving me the idea to create this list, feel free to use it again..
