Incumbent Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has a 14 point lead over former Democrat representative and Senate candidate Abby Finkenauer, according to a poll. The hypothetical general election poll from Data for Progress revealed that likely voters in Iowa would vote for Grassley over Finkenauer 53 percent to 39 percent, respectively, when asked who they would vote for if the election was held “today.” Eight percent said they were unsure.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) shows a massive lead in a hypothetical matchup against candidate and former Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) in Iowa’s U.S. Senate race, according to a poll. Grassley, the long-time incumbent, showed an 18-point lead over Finkenauer, among likely Iowa voters, 55 percent to 37 percent, in the latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll. Seven percent also said they were unsure and going head-to-head matchup between the long-time incumbent and Finkenauer; one percent said they would not vote.

Former Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer is apparently putting together a campaign team. I find this one surprising seeing that as an incumbent she couldn't hold onto her District seat. Already in the race are Republican State Senator Jim Carlin and on the Democrat side, a farmer named Dave Muhlbauer who I confess I've never heard of and I am having trouble tracking down to get on my show. Democrat J.D Scholten is also apparently considering a run.
