oh the vanities! PLZ HELP - I have tried and tried to figger this out - how do you access chat on FR?

Please forgive the vanity. But, I have noticed in the last few days, the background of my profile page, which has been black for months, has set to white and now I cannot change it using the "bgcolor="black" or the CSS. I know this is no big deal, but it is a minor annoyance and haven't been able to find any answers as of yet. Thank you all!

When I click on the word "Free Republic," at the top of the screen, a window pops up asking me to approve a file download from FR. What is this all about?

If anyone is wondering, and probably few are, Cultural Jihad has seemed to drop out as of September 10th. In her last comment, there is no indication whatsoever of her wanting to leave FR. Although she and I have disagreed on points, I find it alarming that she would just drop off of the radar like that; it seems uncharacteristic. I hope everything is OK and that she has simply decided to move on to other things, or that she has taken along vacation, but I am concerned, nonetheless. We had a nursing home fire here in Nashville a week ago and 11 old people died; no fire sprinklers in the building and now there is a hue and cry to require retrofitting of all the "grandfathered" buildings. I've tried to do some on-line research to see if there was a room-sized, pre-charged unit that could be installed to protect the occupants while permanent fixtures were installed. What's the statute of limitations on the acts Arnold is being charged with? You can bet if he's elected both the press (an arm of the Democratic Party); all of the Democrats and the NOW gang will push to bring charges against Arnold. I can't think of the guys name. What is the name of the director who was given an Academy Award or an Emmy just here recently? He is apparently wanted in the United States for raping a young girl. I apologize for the vanity, but my wife inadvertantly opened an email from "Microsoft Security" that was, you guessed it, a virus. My computer escaped this plague, but hers did not. First, it incapacitated Zone Alarm, then it laughed at Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition by not allowing itself to be quarentined or deleted. Then, I pulled out the big guns... an emergency DOS boot disk, figuring I could go in and get midaevil on its a$$. But the keyboard does not respond so I can't direct the program.
