Question for y'all:Whatever happenned to the 3 "WMD" ships that Saddam sent away just before the war and that were reported to be "sailing in circles" in the world's oceans, while the allies were "afraid" to attept boarding them due to a fear the ships would be "scuttled", releasing possible WMDs into the sea?Or did this story turn out to have been fiction? If anyone has heard anything about this, I am sure other Freepers would appreciate the update. Thanks, Al

Are there any tires still made in the USA? Can anyone say with any certainty? A few years ago I believe Goodyear and Cooper were among the last, but I'm not sure if this is still the case. Will need new shoes pretty soon, and I'd like to buy American if I still can. Thanks.

Hoping one of your gear heads out there can help. I have a 96 Cavalier that died on me last week. I was driving it around town (stop and go traffic). The car was doing fine until I went to a drive threw. As I was waiting in line, the car was idling then the RPM's dropped very, very low..The engine was sputtering and if I applied anything to the accelerator, the car would almost stall out. This went on for a couple minutes, then the car just died. The engine will crank up, but will not turn over. I'm...

I have read many posters say they want Saddam captured alive, I have to disagree. I hope he is found dead because to have him as a prisoner will become a cause for many hostage situations to free him and for many attacks to force his release. No, Saddam, like Osama must just disappear.......IMO. What do you think?

I would like to first thank Free Republic for the space I am taking. I am just an average Joe. I love my country, and my President. I believe in hard work, and treating my fellow human being as I would like to be treated. I am somewhat concerened about the economic situation our country is now facing. When I was a young teenager, we all could get a job, if we were willing to work. I worked hard, and was thankful to have the oppurtunity to have a job. While in college, I felt that I was not going...

I first wanted to thank everyone who posted their advice to my previous post; I greatly appreciated the help. A simple question: Where online can I find good deals on paper targets? I'm primarily interested in those person silohuettes, but am looking for the traditional circles as well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

There is so much hype that this movie sucks that I have to ask this question. Is Hollywood appealling to the grade B crowd? "Showgirls" was pornographic and pathetic (as opposed to "Basic Instinct" which in spite of the porn was a realy good yarn). Yet they bothered to make a DVD of this piece of sh*t. "Pearl Harbor" (also with Ben Aflek) was an insult to the veterans of the event and a mockery of "Tora, Tora, Tora" yet even I have the DVD! There are people out there that love crap movies and make "cult" status to them....

Here it is, close to 2:00 a.m. on a Friday night. Eaker & I are having our usual BS discussions. At one point in our conversation I say to Eaker that he is an ass - a great person, but an ass non the less. Well, he totally disagrees with me, then dares me to post a survey thread on FR. So let me (and him) know what you think - is Eaker an ass or not? Please keep in mind at all times that there is NO DOUBT that he is a great & wonderful person and I love...

Hate your hair? Blame your mother's diet August 01 2003 at 06:36PM By Maggie Fox Washington - In a study that shows more than ever that you are what you eat, American scientists said on Friday they had changed the coat colours of baby mice simply by altering their mothers' diets. The study shows that common nutrients can influence which genes turn on and off in a developing fetus, and help explain some of the factors that decide which genes "express" and which remain silent. Writing in Friday's issue of the journal Molecular and Cellular Biology, the scientists at Duke...

I heard on the Rush Limbaugh show that Sheila Jackson Lee is complaining that there are 'No Black names' for Hurricanes, that's how racist we are. Has anyone else heard this?? This is without a doubt the wackiest complaint yet, if true. Look out Louisiana here comes Hurricane Snoop Dog. What is a 'Black name' by the way? Is 'Sheila' black or white? Would 'Hurricane Michael' be racist? Let us ask Michael Jordan or Michael Jackson.

My nephew has been playing games on my computer for ages. One is Dodge Speedway at the MSN games page. He loves it and it keeps him busy when he's visiting on rainy days. All of a sudden the game will not load. He gets a message saying "No 3D Accelerator detected". Another MSN game, RC Riot, now runs slow which doesn't let him steer correctly. I'm a ditz when it comes to computers. Can someone tell me what may have changed here? Do we have a card that's gone bad?

Hi, everybody. After five and a half years with my fairly-faithful IBM Thinkpad, it's time for an upgrade. I don't want a notebook computer, but I don't want some honking big tower either. I've looked at the Gateway Profile 4 and like that design--something compact, yet with enough computing power to last for years. The only drawback is that the Gateway model seems kind of pricey. Any suggestions on similar compact desktop computers, or on dealing with Gateway in general? Basically, I want a Pentium 4 machine with a DVD writer and a 60-80 GB hard-drive. I also want the...

More woe. When I present a post asking for help or technical assistance I post in 'tech'/announcements/activism. I get the most help in the first few minutes after my post has been posted to the list. About five minutes later, my help post has vanisished from the freeper front page. My post is then relegated to the vast darkness of 'general interest' or something like that, which nobody ever visits. If you ain't on the front page of Freeper, then your questions will definetely go unanswered. Hey, I got some real good technical problems that need lots of help! Why...

So what is the difference between the General Interest section and The Smokey Backroom section of the FR? Has The Smokey Backroom section been established because the General Interest section has sort of turned into the Hobbit section? I just want to know so I know what sort of stuff to post in The Smokey Backroom section.
